Thermostat Replacement
I recently had a coolant/thermostat explosion happen. I see that I have to replace both the octopus hose and the thermostat. I was wondering what kind of thermostat I should get for my 2000 XJ8. This is the first part I am ever buying for a Jag so I am extremely in the dark about it.
The dealer part is set at 200 USD and a couple hours of work so about 4oo for the whole thing. I wanted to see if buy the parts individually would be better and what kind to find.
Please, if there are any sites out there or anyone who can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated.
I love my Jag and I'm hoping that nothing else happens to it after this situation so I want to fix her right and keep her forever.
Thank you.

The octopus hose now is only being sold by Jaguar dealerships. There were maybe 3 aftermarket ones being sold last year, but now looks like they been discontinued based on my recent internet searches using the aftermarket part numbers.
Jaguar part number MNC6733AE - 5 way hose -
Hampton Automotive on EBAY has it listed for $175.95 free shipping listing says for XJR, but it is the same part number for XJ8.

Here is weblink to information and photos of how to replace the octopus hose (look at post# 9 and 10):

If your 2000 XJ8 still has a plastic thermostat housing, then you should replace it with aftermarket Aluminum one (plastic housing will crack). Welsh Engineering sells them along with thermostat as a kit for $65.95 plus shipping $13.75.
Welsh Enterprises - New Jaguar Parts, Used Jaguar Parts and Accessories - XK120 - XK140 - XK150 - E-Type - MK - XJ6 - XJ8 - XJ - XK8 - XK - XJS - S-Type - X-Type - XF
It is also available on EBAY, Amazon and others, but as far as I know, only Welshent includes the Thermostat in their price for the kit.
Thermostat price alone is in the $14 (Stant 14748)to $60 (Jaguar part number AJ86484) price range. Welshent.com price just for the thermostat is $24.95 plus shipping.
