XJ8 Antenna replacement - so easy?? Need help
OK, so I thought I'd be a hero here at home and replace the antenna mast after I bent it parking near a tree! I read many posts here describing the process and, being pretty handy with tools, engine rebuilds, and that sort of thing, I thought, "Piece of cake!" Not!
I can't remove the nut at the top of the mast!! The nut turns and turns (yes, in the correct direction) but doesn't loosen. I removed the trunk compartment lining and can't find anything rotating with the nut so I assume whatever is rotating with it is inside the antenna assembly. Can anybody offer some guidance? The pics are just in case I have an unusual antenna motor.
Many thanks!!

first of all take the all asembly ot of the car, if the bent antenna stops you from taking it out of the car just cut it ( you're changing it anyway) and you dont have to loosen the upper nut to take it out , it just pops out of the rubber sealing. (hope you'll understand what i mean )
then you should take apart the black plastic part (you'll have to do it anyway) and so you'll se what is the best that you can do... mine antenna is the same as yours ( don't know if others are diferrent) and once I forgot to turn of the radio in the car wash , it broke, but I didn't change it, just made it shorter ad it works fine. good luck!

The nut is probably just stuck in the rubber grommet. Grab it with something and pull up on the nut. After the nut is loose, have someone turn the ignition key to run and pull on the antenna mast, it should come out along with the plastic tape that runs it up and down. Insert the new tape, watch for the correct alignment of the tape and have someone turn the ignition key to off. The antenna motor should pull the tape and the antenna in place. Apply a little lube, I use silicone grease, in the grommet so the nut slides down and turns easily. I have installed more than a couple until I discovered my wife was starting the garage door down before the car was completely in, bending the antenna mast back, and this procedure has always worked for me.
