2005 XJ8L TickTick!

2005 XJ8L TickTick!
I noticed this morning I am hearing a very faint tick tick (like a clock) at idle. I stopped by my non-Jag tech. He said it is coming from the dash. The only thing I can think of is I was low on anti-freeze last week and added some (orange type). Anyone with a similar tick tick on their XJ8? I did notice it takes about 30 seconds after starting the car for the tick tick to come back. No difference when reving the engine up.
Thanks!

Hi Richard,
My 2005 Vanden Plas does the same thing. It doesn't do it all the time, and sometimes it's a little louder than other times. I do not believe that it's in the dash, I believe that it's under the hood somewhere. It was suggested to me that it was, I can't remember, Maybe a smog pump or air pump of some sort? I have not been able to localize it, nor have I been able to pinpoint particular times that it makes the sound. It seems totally random. Mine stays I believe at the same frequency all the time, and it stops immediately when the engine is shut off, and the key is left on.
I am sorry that I don't have an explanation, but I thought that I would give you some information about mine as well. Perhaps we can eventually figure out this anomaly.

Matt,
You are correct!
I took the car to the dealership on Friday. They quickly said it was the "purge valve" which is part of the fuel system. They said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car, and it would make the ticking sound more so with cold weather. The tech said the 2006+ had the purge valve enclosed in a form compartment so the driver would not hear the noise! He did say they had replaced several trying to get rid of the noise (in the 2004 & 2005 model years), but almost all the time, it did no good. Oddly, I have driven the car in cold weather before and never noticed it. Still not sure why it began suddenly?
Thanks!

you can replace the valve and also use a foam pad to cover it but the foam pad is a part for a xk8 not a xj8 and it will be better but the noise is going to still be there if you listen for it. my wifes new 05 xj8 was making that noise and i used foam pad for xk8 and its much better and its the same valve.
