Smile Ok, for all of us early xj8 owners......

Guys, would anyone be interested in a write up on how to repair the Blower Motor Resistor for the 04-up? You know the stupid $200 plus part that shuts the fan off when it goes? I have found a way to fix it for 15 bucks!!!

I know it probably is no big deal, but I figure that I would rather put the $200 somewhere else.... I am getting ready to do another one and thought I would share if anyone wants to know...

Thoughts?

I'm interested as well in that "just in case scenario pops up"! $15 over $200 bring it! lol

So to summarise:

1. it's a fix
2. it saves $200

Can't see anyone turning that down!

Ok, I'll be pulling one out on the 2nd... Lots of photos will help ya all... I just could not justify paying $225 for the fan controller for the blower motor...

Link worked.
Very interesting stuff.
I never thought I will write this, but I'm happy to do your kind of "homework".

OK, I realized I forgot to post this!!! but here is how it is done....

I am going to assume you all can pull the resistor out in one piece.. just be careful removing the inner glove box as the lactic cover for the light socket on the left side of the box breaks upon removal. it is just glued on... (learned the hard way.)

so once removed you should have this piece sitting on the table...

next you have to open the unit up....remove screws, then pry the four corners up to open. be careful not to break tabs... pull plug cover straight off, it should look like this when done....

at this point, you can begin the repair. the resistor has a single transformer held in place with three contacts at the top and two at the bottom.... as you can see. you have to heat up and unsolder the contacts, you can even cut them with a pair of pliers if need be by lifting the circuit board to access them... it is all getting changed...once your resistor circuit board is separated from the housing, it will have five holes as you can see on mine, set it aside you will not be needing it right now...

Default ok, next steps...

Grab the resistor block at this point and the kit with the replacement parts. Ok, the parts to replace can be purchased on ebay for $10.00! (go figure) they are for a Honda Power Transistor K2313 Repair kit 79330-S5A-942. Right off ebay...

ok, moving on. now the board is off, remove the screw holding transistor in place, and pull out both the bad resistor and transistor... grab kit at this point, here is the farthest teardown point, you are ready to begin assembly.

now install the new resistor and transistor. (there are two types that are offered at a local radio shack if you do not want to buy this on ebay... Make sure the transistor is a k2313. they try to substitute it with a k2303, but it will only work for 2 days then quit, I do not know why, but I assume the power requirements are more than it can handle.

Default final steps....

Finally, thread the wires through your circuit board and solder it up... trim off excess wire with pliers and reassemble.....That's it! reinstall and wholla! you have a fully functional resistor block again!!!! Mine has run perfect for the last 6 months without a single issue! It is great! I know there may be some doubters, so I'll give you some backup: Mine was the first, I have since done 11 more... not a single failure yet..... it works!!!!!

Hope it helps some of you... Currently gathering some rebuildable cores to offer an exchange service so if you don't have the time, I could do it for you!
