Select Edition Warranty scam!

Dear Jaguar Forum:
I write to complain about misrepresentations made within the Jaguar Select Edition warranty.
Jaguar promotes the Select Edition warranty as "tacking on 2-years to the original factory warranty" but fails to disclose the MASSIVE LOOPHOLES that exist within the extended warranty that do not exist within the warranty that it claims to "EXTEND."
If fact, the Select Edition warranty often creates ADDITIONAL expenses for owners like myself who have purchased a Select Edition vehicle in good faith.
Examples as follows:
1. Digital compass stops working. Jaguar claim they cannot tell if the item is covered by warranty without completing a diagnosis at a cost of $135 to the consumer. Consumer subsequently told that the item was not covered by warranty but would be repaired within the cost of the diagnosis. Result, buyer forced to pay $135 to repair an item that any reasonable person would assume to be covered by any worthwhile warranty.
2. Drivers seat memory stops working.
3. Transmission shifts irregularly. Jaguar claim they cannot tell if the item is covered by warranty without completing a diagnosis at a cost of $135 to the consumer. Consumer subsequently told that the item was not covered by warranty and would cost $270 to repair. Result, buyer forced to pay $270 for a transmission repair that any reasonable person would assume is covered by warranty.
Note: The word "forced" is used in the above examples because the only alternative would be to refuse the repairs, thus still incurring the fraudulent "diagnosis" fees.
I have contacted Jaguar's head office regarding these matters. Initially they were receptive to my complaint and stated that the only items not covered by the Select Edition warranty were normal "wear and tear" items as one would expect. But subsequently they changed there position and stated that none of the above items were covered. [:@]
If you have taken the time to read this far, I am sure you will agree that the above matters constitute an outrage. I would add that none of these claims were voided as a result of any sort of mis-use or breach of terms and I have all the documentation at hand.
Does anyone have any input in this regard?
Thank you.

select usually covers everything! except ball joints and wear and tear items and interior trim... but the truth is everything can be covered... when the service advisor sends a email claim into the select people they say if it is covered or not.. you have to have a good service advisor that works with you.. and has a good imagination and uses the right words in his email... i'd say go to another dealer.. ive seen everything be covered just the way the advisor words it.

I've had the same issues with SE. The famous diagnostic charges!! Also was told that it is only breakdown coverage and not even close to the original warranty coverage. And like you say buy the time they find the problem it's too late. I took my car in to have a coil and plug replaced which was covered and came out with 2 coolant leaks that weren't covered. After refusing to pay over 600.00 to have the hoses replaced and getting tagged for the 120.00 Diag. fee I found that the leaks were just loose hoses and fixed them myself. I'm sure they were knocked loose or pulled loose during the coil and plug change. These guys will look you right in the eyes and lie right to you.
I know that their not all that way but I do hear a lot of the same storys of this going on.

I would definitly like to know which dealer you went to. Rear view mirrors as JHE2003 stated are indeed covered by SE. Also you did not say what the transmission fault ended up being. If there is a TSB that covers the reflash then select should pay it. They cover just about everything except rubber components and brakes. Also no trim items. It is pretty much a powertrain warranty and I will have you know for a Jaguar it is the very best extended warranty out there. No deductible, no partial labor payments. They pay for a factory rebuilt engine if it blows up and the others will ship out a used one. Also the memory seats? I cannot think of anything that would fail in the memory seat system that select edition would not pay for. You definitly need to be using a different dealer.

Well I took my car into the Jag Dealer regarding my hids headlights pointing low, and they tried to charge me $500 for some computer program, plus new sensors. They recomended me If I really wanted to solve the problem, I need to get new assemblies for $3000 incl labor. People there were very rude and arrogant.I called Jag customer service, and they say Select Edition doesnt cover Headlights period. However It says this in the Select Edition Passport Book that "Headlamp Aiming" is not covered but doesnt say anything about headlights themself which is completely deceptive. My dealer stated that also. While some people state they got their headlights replaced under Select Edition, Its not working for me. I would love to go to your dealership to get mines replaced under Select Edition. Jaguar is really messed up, its a shame. Everyone has the same problem with the Xenons Headlightspointing to the ground, and auto adjust or sensors keeps breaking. You can even look on Ebay, and every S-Type Headlights the auto adjust is broken, or sensor is. They know that this is a problem, but they refuse to fix it under warranty, and wants to charge hundreds of dollars, plus all these rediculous diag fees. I didnt pay them either after arguing with a idiot manger at the dealership. Nevertheless you have to take the entire bumper off to change the bulbs or to have better access to the headlights. My Mercedes Benz I could do work under my hood, change bulbs in seconds. WithMB CPO Warranty Plan I never get charged any Diag Fees, all my bills read $0 and things not covered under warranty my MB Dealeship made them cover it.Only reason I bought one is because of the high performance model S-Type R, andI got a crazy deal on it. But Now Im on the verge of going back to Mercedes Benz, where I dont deal with these problems, and the dealership covers everything under CPO, and all my bills read $0 and no diag fees. The last person who owned my car all their bills were pretty much $250-$900 and the car has Select Edition Warranty. I seen very few $0 bills. Everything else they paid huge fees which included diagnostic charges. A Jaguar is more complicated. Why they make it like that ? So they can steal more money from us by forcing us to go to the Dealership AKA ***********. This is rediculous. This maybemy last Jag I willown, and I am contemplating selling my S-Type R sooner than I thought. Now I see why people dont want a Jaguar. Any imput on this ?

I went to Jaguar of Novi, MI.
I was having issues with my car not starting after sitting over night. I took it into the dealer and they told me it was the wiring under the front passenger and driver side. Complete wire corrosion and they needed to repair the harness. They said that wasn't covered under warranty and charged me $670.
Also, after winter, I went to open my sunroof for the first time. When i went to open it, i heard a crack and then it wouldn't move. They told me the entire track has been warped and stripped. They told me I'd have to pay 1700 to fix it.
I have a transmission leak. They told me that was not covered under warranty and told me i'd have to pay about 670 as well.
I had them fix the wiring and paid the 670. Then they made me pay the fee for checking the sunroof because i didn't have them fix it. So i paid about 780 dollars total.
I've been told that those issues are in fact covered by warranty. Is this so?

trim items not covered and like previously mentioned its how its worded. corrosion never covered. trans leak,, depends on why, as an example
Select will never cover anything with air bags, like the steering wheel cassette replacement for air bag light.
But the same part can be covered for say horn inop...Some dealers are not warranty friendly since theyre not paid as much ( think doctors and medicaid ) If you have a dealer, tech, or advisor find another. Or discuss reasoning and is there a way this can be worded done to be covered???

Select Edition Warranty means Jaguar gets to select what they cover; anything broken, not covered!
I have a 2007 XK and it just got enough miles to start the Select Edition Warranty. Wow... I'm amazed and outraged that Jaguar would allow this to happen. On the face of the warranty and how it is described by the sales team, it is not as good as other luxury brands' warranties, but it is close. WRONG!!!!
Trim is not covered. Okay, what is trim? Everyone has a good idea what trim is on a car and since it is cosmetic, could understand why it is not covered. The water jet that cleans my headlight broke. It is a relatively large apparatus that, upon activation, sticks out about seven inches and sprays cleaning solution on the headlight. It broke, and it looks ridiculous. I brought it into the dealership and they told me it is not covered because it is considered TRIM. So this TRIM is normally inside the car, is motorized, and has a function; all of which go against the common idea of TRIM.
Ironically, the dealership has a paper that lists all the things that are covered and not covered by the warranty. TRIM is the only ambiguous term, so my guess is anything on the outside of the car is considered TRIM, which is NOT covered.
Another thing not covered: seatbelts. When I heard this I thought, okay seatbelts never break so what does it matter? WRONG. My driver's side seatbelt stopped working one day for no reason. It will not buckle. Brought it in to the dealership. NOT COVERED. I work on classic cars that are 40 to 50 years old. Never seen a seatbelt stop working.
The last three times I have brought the car to the dealership for a repair that any reasonable person would think is covered by the warranty, it has NOT BEEN COVERED.
I had a Lexus and an Infiniti before this Jag. Never had one problem or warranty dispute with either. I WILL NEVER BUY A JAGUAR AGAIN!!!!!!!!
I assumed the warranties were comparable, but Jaguar made an *** out of U and ME.

Damn how many of you are divorced??
Did you tell your spouse or did they tell you about all their bad habits and things you divorced them over before you got married??
NO they projected their best traits and behaviors. Do you thing any company still in business is gonna say our product kills, people, we wont help you after you buiy it, our service sucks, you have a repaiman out constantly to fix it, youll be pissed cause we dont cover this and that on our warranty???? NO they talk about what they do and how good they are and all the positive stuff. Also all warranty companies modify what they cover from time to time, and the times they pay for jobs too. In todays economy theres alot more declining and less paid for jobs, and this is ACROSS the board with all warranty companies still in business. Select is not owned or run by Jaguar, its subcontracted to an aftermarket ext warranty company. And they USED to be alot more liberal
Let me see
I wouldnt have married my first wife if you had told me she was lazy and never wanted to work and sit and home and do nothing with her life.
Or my second if she'd have said she couldnt see being with 1 man the rest of her life and raising 3 kids< I laugh cause the guy she ran off with is a nut and she has ruined her life.
or my 3rd if she have said you know youre a good father but I just dont like this whole kid and mom thing< I have 3 teens and anyone with kids knows the trouble that can be at times. you need patience, compromise, and advil
and its not about you but about others.
If you dont like what you got, get something else, we do it with spouses and unborn children, and a car isnt that big a deal
Just remember, once you stand on the other guys grass, its often just as brown and thin or worse than your own

I can't speak to whether your salesman might have exaggerated the Select Edition coverages, but I can tell you for a factory backed extended warranty, you'll be hard pressed to find a better one. It has been hailed for years as the best in the business. Wear & tear, trim and cosmetic items are about all that is excluded.
Here below is the text of a 2010 Select Edition parts coverage update, and attached is the covered parts list.
Select Edition Parts Coverage Update
As a result of continued improvements on our vehicles, the Select Edition Warranty coverage exclusion
for 'Bushings' is being modified to 'Serviceable Bushings'. Consequently, components with nonserviceable
bushings will be covered by Select Edition when the bushing results in the component
failing to meet factory specifications.
• Serviceable bushings are not covered under the terms of the Select Edition Warranty.
• Non-serviceable bushings which result in the affixed component to not meet factory
specifications are covered under the terms of the Select Edition Warranty.
This change in component coverage takes affect 29 January 2010. Claims prior to the effective date
will not be considered for coverage.
Check the covered parts list for your failed item, if it ain't there, it ain't likely covered.
Cheers,
