'12 XJ SC vs XFR
#2
The choice is very personal.
If my driving preferences were tilted towards all out performance and handling, I would choose the XFR. It is a smaller, more agile platform with super steering and great handling. It is the true sport sedan in the Jaguar lineup.
If I preferred unparalleled luxury AND great performance with still very good handling and very good steering, I would take the XJ SC. The XJ or XJL are far more luxurious from the inside with more imposing exterior dimensions and design and, while it has super performance it is really NOT a true sport sedan but, an elegant high performance saloon car.

Pulled the trigger
My new toy will be delivered to the dealer on Monday. Went with a '12 XJ SC with Sport and Speed pack, Illumination pack, in ebony with new ivory interior. I give up a few inches of rear legroom and the trays my kids never used and gain a more conveniently sized car that has better performance characteristics.
I can't wait to see what kind of fun I can get into with it!

Finally picked my new kitty up and it is AWESOME! The only disappointment is the older SAT/NAV interface. It is the older one with the smaller buttons, not quite as functional as the improved version I just gave up, but serviceable. It was a 2012.5 MY build, so I figured it would have the updated interface. Oh well.
Otherwise, good performance improvement versus the LWB variant. Feels much more buttoned down and is a looker with the Sport/Speed pack. Will figure out how to post pics here and get some soon!

Regarding the touch screen with the small buttons. I bought my 2012 xjl on dec 2011. It is a 2012 model that was built in November of 2012. It came with the small buttons on the touchscreen. But when I bought it they said the early 2012 models weren't equipped with the upgraded version but that Jaguar required or gave all customers the option of upgrading. I drove the car for a month with the old version before the new system came in and they swapped it out. My point being every owner of a 2012 model should have been told they were eligible for the upgrade when they bought their early build 2012 model. You should ask your dealer.

My vin is 30xxx 2012 xjl early build. It came with the old setup. But like I said before they would deliver it to me they offered the upgrade. Anyone with a 2012 model and the Old touchscreen should inquire. It was only offered to 2012 models owners and not 2011's. anyone else have any other experience with this ?

2012 models built december 2011 build forward also get a new glass screen, but the glass screen is not being retrofitted, only the new hard buttons and software. My XJL SC with build date end of Jan-2012 vin 32XXX has the upgraded glass screen, hard buttons and software.

After a few days with it, I think I can live with the older system. The largest difference is smaller buttons and more crowded menus. I think I won't even miss my old, updated sat/nav after a little more time. Plus, the feel of the SWB and look of the sport/speed pack makes me positively giddy! Now, to find the right ECU tuner and make it extra special!
