RTag, Stepping down in rim size should open things up for you. Yeah, you are getting a slightly wider rim, but if your backspacing/offset is the same, then you should be good. I am just confused by one statement that you made, "Same tire size". You do realize that you will need to go from say the 255/40R20, to say a 255/50R19 to maintain the same overall tire height. The issue comes, you go with a slightly smaller front tire, the front tires are going to spin faster than the rear tires. The ABS and traction control are going to see the speed difference and assume the front tires are spinning and apply the front brakes to slow them down. I think you can see where this will be an issue. The system does allow for some mismatch (ie, when you turn, the wheels will spin at different rates). But, what is the threshold and when will you hit it. This is where finding a tire calculator, putting in various size front tires will be needed to ensure you get the tires as close as practical.
You will not be able to fit the 255/40R20 on the 19" rim and going wit ha 255/40R19 is going to lead to what I mentioned above.
