Default 2011 XJ Supercharge

Not sure is this is the correct place for this post, but I would like to know of any positive or negative experience with the 2011 XJ Supercharge 5.0L V8DOHC Supercharged Gen 111. Looking at the purchase of a nice Green one with 44,000 miles on it.

Thanks,
Ritzy

A 2011 is right in the middle of the roof popping problem period. So on your test drive you need to take the car along the bumpiest road you can and listen-out. My local independent said they have seen no other serious issues on these cars, but there aren't many around in the UK, I suspect because they are just too damn big ! The XF suits a lot more people as its smaller and costs less too.

Listen for a noisy pulley, there's a TSB for that. Check the repair history for water pump replacement. It's not too common, but it happens. Roof popping noise, as Fraser Mitchell stated. Turn the stereo up, preferably something with low end in it to hear if the speakers are blown. There's also a TSB for the condition of the exterior window trim...might be worth following up on, although I doubt that car is still under the original factory warranty.

Good luck.

What's the issue with the trim as addressed in the TSB?

Dull, tarnished finish over time. I didn't even really notice it until someone else pointed it out. I was pouring over the TSBs for another issue and stumbled on it. They will replace all of the outside aluminum trim.

Of course, it has to be under the factory warranty (not CPO).

Thanks. Good to know. Do you have the TSB# by any chance. My factory warranty is up in Sept. so I'll have to keep an eye on the trim (just in case). Is it a year-specific issue?

My chrome looked tarnished, so I asked the dealer to look at it. He said it was chemical discoloration, not tarnishing. So, they wouldn't replace it. Didn't upset me, as it wasn't that bad - I was just fishing.

If it was chemical discoloration, you shouldn't be able to buff it to a shine. That's not the case with this car. You can use a little elbow grease and shine the trim yourself.

I guess Ibgot lucky because of the horrible service I was getting from my dealer. They were doing anything they could at the time to make me happy
