2011 XJ window wont go up or down - RESOLVED
Hello all,
I just purchased a 2011 XJ with 60k miles, I love the car.
My rear passenger window wont go up or down, when I press the button I can hear a click but no movement at all.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Pedro, keep in mind that these windows have a safety feature in them that prevents the window from operating if it senses something providing resistance to the window. It figures this out by watching the current in the motor that raises/lowers the window. If you have binding there, the current can get high enough that the car thinks a hand is affecting the window. Also, when a window motor starts to go, it will loose its ability to develop torque, which is what is needed to raise/lower a window. So, if the click you are hearing is coming from the door in question, like was said, you either have a window regulator that is stuck or the motor is starting to go and you will need a new motor.

Do some careful reading before attempting to remove the door card. Fixing screws are never obvious and it's easy to break plastic clips.

Pedro,
You don't have sufficient posts to be able to download attachments from the forum so I've sent the attached PDF to the email address you have registered with the forum. It's an extract from the Workshop Manual with the procedure for removing the rear door trim.

Sun Visors needed
Most people selling them think they have gold covered visors. Lol

Even better that you reported back what the fix was!
Good luck with the visor. I never have been able to recover them without it looking terrible. Used was no better. I finally just gritted my teeth and purchased 2 new ones for my old STR. Really improved the interior but they are VERY expensive new!

I had the same problem a few years ago. I removed my driver's side sun visor and separated the two halves to look inside and see if it was repairable. Unfortunately, the molded plastic was in too many little pieces.
In the US, Jaguar had 2 replacement visors in various colors. The first, and most expensive, included the required NHTSA warning labels bonded to the visor. The second did not include those labels. I don't know what's available now.
COVID has affected parts availability.

Thanks Stuart I did not know that and funny enough when I did replace my sun visors I used adhesive remover and took all the warning decals off the new visors. I think they look much better that way.
Yes I have taken at least 6 different ones apart to find the secret but no luck. I even paid $150 to get one visor redone but the outcome was terrible and I just could not install it on my car!

Would this be a better alternative to the sun visor problem? I am thinking you don't have to use your Jag's sun visor anymore and just attach this one and I think this will serve you well.

Probably not. That Amazon device attaches to the existing sun visor, which is broken. The broken sun visor doesn't stay in place when moved up or down or left and right.
If the existing sun visor is removed, how do you install that Amazon visor so you can move it around? Also, it's translucent and won't completely block the sun.

Hi Stuart
How about this one? Perhaps it might work on your part, it is not an XJ but it might give you an idea how to fix the sun visor to stay up in place

Also, that fix won't work because the visors on my 2013 XJ don't slide on the shaft. All they do is rotate up and down. That's just another thing that the factory forgot. I don't know if that changed in later models.

Thank You for the step by step instructions, I contacted a local shop and they quoted me $400 installed. I went ahead and purchased a new door motor with a regulator attached, after reading your tips and others here I was able to do the job myself. It cost me $100 for parts and a little elbow grease. Finally the window works as intended.

I don't like people who think I'm a chump, like the Jaguar dealer in Hilton Head that told me it costs $212 to replace the engine air filters, a job that cost me $8 and ten minutes to do.

What I do is find the correct part numbers first. All the on-line parts dealers have good documentation and be aware that Jaguar does everything according to the last 6 digits of your VIN. So have your VIN handy when looking for parts. This should tell you if that part number will fit your car.
Jaguar is the best place to get parts but be sure and do some searching on EBay too. After you find the correct part number.
If your serious consider getting and installing JEPC as we now have a member who built a viewer so we can use JEPC. JEPC stopped working because of the ending of Flash and the removal of flash from just about everyone's machines because of a MS software update. Once it's gone you can't get it back.
But with Jpart installed now JEPC works fine. JEPC = Jaguar Electronic Parts Catalog.
Jpart and JEPC are both free so it just takes a bit of work on your part to install and get them operating.
Search for Jpart and JEPC to find the free software.
And another public thank you to the guy who wrote Jpart!!! JEPC was a mess before that came out.
