2011 XJL reliability.
Hey all, just bought my first Jag! It's a 2011 XJL without supercharged. It has very low miles of 33,000 and was a Florida car. It's in great shape and I am in love with it. I have owned an S55 AMG in the past and while mine never had a major issue, I know many did and they were EXPENSIVE to fix. Anyway, the dealer talked me into a CNA warranty for 3/36k for $3,400. It sounded like a good deal as I know one repair as a water pump etc is probably over a grand. The more and more I read about these cars is that reliability is pretty good. Jags are cursed from the old days, which is okay cuz it allows me to buy a 95k dollar car for an affordable price. But how good are these cars? Should I cancel my warranty or keep it for peace of mind? Any and all comments are appreciated!

2011BlackXJL, the warrantee you got is a loaded thing. You can have it and never use it and be mad at yourself for not trading it in or you can be like some that get rid of it and have perpetual problems costing them many times what they paid for the policy to start with.
I have a 2012 and things have been really good so far. Just a few little quirks with the car (one mirror doesn't want to reposition when I back up and I get an occassional P0101 code most likely due to a slightly dirty MAF sensor, neither of which is a major problem to me. The biggest "problem" I have is the MPG reading is off by 10%. I would think that a car like this could be a little more accurate than that.
Getting your car used, I personally would say forgo the warrantee and put the money away in an account somewhere just in case you need it for something. The most likely problems (popping sunroof and bad water pump) should have failed/been repaired by now. So, with those replaced, now you are on to the normal wear and tear items which are normally not covered by the warrantee anyways. But then, sometimes having that piece of mind is nice to have. My Jag does not have a warrantee on it, but the wife's Ford Fusion does.

Hi 2011BlackXJL, congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the family! Glad to hear you love your car; you'll meet a lot of wonderful enthusiasts on this forum and find it extremely helpful.
I have a 2011 XJL as well (mine is supercharged) and I would definitely recommend keeping the warranty. I got the same warranty when I bought mine and it has already paid for itself. I haven't had any major issues with the car whatsoever, but so far it has covered a leaking front crankcase seal, some interior window trim that was coming loose, and the rattle in the roof. I have to take the car in this month to get the rear door handle replaced (keyless features no longer works on that door all of a sudden), have them check a power steering shudder at low speed, and fix a door rattle that just popped up. It's nice to know I can just bring it in and pick it up good as new any time there is a problem. Other than small things such as those, the car has been bullet-proof.
Keep the warranty, take care of it, and you'll enjoy owning/driving it!

Good to know you haven't had many problems. I keep hearing about this popping roof and sunroof issues. They are actually repairing the sunroof now. The shade for the front roof doesn't want to open or close all the way. Sounds like a motor stripping or if it has a plastic track that is slipping. I have heard about the water pumps also. Maybe mine has been swapped out with an upgraded part!

Hello , I've also got a 2011 XJL. Not had it for long but I did look into reliability as I know how bad bills can get on some cars. Previous car was a Porsche, mine was unreliable and expensive to repair. From what I found I did not go for a warranty. There are lots of electronics and electrics on these cars but actually this area is so much better than, say, a decade ago. I found virtually no complaints about the digital dashboard which is quite a new thing. I think the petrol engine has been used in other cars for a while (mine's diesel and same applies) so that should be easy to find out about. My 2009 XF was very good too, no major problems. I always avoid first production year cars on the advice of my friend who worked in a car plant. My big concern with warranties is that many people say that when they come to need them, it's like getting blood from a stone. My car came with all the history from jaguar breakdown assist. Two breakdowns: one loose battery coil connection and one dead battery when the car was 3 years old. Maybe if you're on the original battery get a decent new one now as it's still about the most common call out for the breakdown services.

Thanks for the reply! I did also hear about some battery issues. I will check and see if it's the original battery. I am so torn with the warranty. That's what I have heard too, about getting them to cover something. Other guy on this post said he has same warranty and no issues. Possibly it could be better if going back to the dealer who sold the warranty as they have some stake in it? I think I am just going to keep it and if no problems, for the cost on that car it wasn't so bad. Difference between a good interest rate and a bad one. If the car is great during those three years, I plan to keep it until it's outdated looking, which hopefully will be a long time!

I'd stay w/ the extended warranty.
A relative has a 2011 XJL for 2 years and just found out that a new engine is needed. He has the extended warranty but the company is now telling him they won't honor a replacement engine from the Jaguar dealer.
I don't know the name of the company that he purchased the extended warranty. If I can get more details as well as the name of the company that won't honor the extended warranty I will post that info on this site.

I'd keep the warranty; you just never know! My car blew a head gasket at 46,000 miles! That's pretty unusual and is in no way a cheap fix! Fortunately, I'm still under factory new car warranty so there's no issue with payment, but that runs out in August or at 50K miles, whichever comes first. Glad it happened when it did. Has been at the dealership since May 16th and should be coming home today or tomorrow.

1) The sunshade in the roof would not close all the way at the rear. Jaguar dealer fixed it at no cost.
2) I started getting random warnings of the bonnet being open. When the car was not in use this would also set off the alarm. Again this was fixed but I had to pay the price of a new sensor or something (it was out of warranty).
Other than that it's been rock solid. Still, I would keep the warranty if I had your choice!
