Default 2011 XJL warranty

Hi, new here and am considering buying a 2011 xjl with 64800 miles on it. Am wondering if anyone can recommend a warranty company that actually pays on a breakdown, thanks in advance , ps is 16995 a decent price?

Way, way too expensive! These cars sit and do not sell. Bargain hard and don't take no as they won't have anybody else looking at the car. Unless there is something about this car that makes you REALLY want to get it I would pass.
As you know the later the model the better the car. So try to look for cars a little newer if possible.

Next I am afraid your heading down an expensive and frustrating path here?
Apparently you have no DIY skills? Owning a 12+ year old expensive used luxury car WILL require repairs and maintenance. Especially if the prior owners have neglected the car as many do.

Also since you are not real experienced it would be a wise investment to spend a couple of hundred dollars on a good 3rd party inspection but again be aware that the inspectors are NOT Jaguar experts and will miss things.

Is your mechanic a Jaguar mechanic? While Jaguars are just cars with 4 wheels and an engine and transmission they are not real common. The last thing you want is for your mechanic to be learning on your car!

My Jags have been absolutely the best cars I have owned and I am old! BUT I do ALL my own work and always have.
If your serious about a used XJ I would keep reading and understand ALL cars will have a list of common or at least well known problems/issues. That's a fact of life.
So get educated about the XJ's known problems and if using a mechanic make sure (How I don't know?) that he is familiar with the model of Jaguar you buy.

Now you noticed I did NOT answer your question about after market warranty? Why because I have never had any warranty outside Jaguar's CPO version. All the reports back to this list are about fighting to get things covered and paid. Plus we have several very experienced members who hopefully will see this and post how it worked and what brand of warranty they used. Me I would not even try to use such a warranty. I have been told they are "Service Agreements" and NOT warranties? I don't understand the difference. But there is one!

One tip on that car if you do drive it? Learn about the creaking roof on the early cars. It's no problem at all other than the noise BUT it can be expensive and require multiple trips to the dealer to get it fixed. Again this is just one thing to consider.

This forum has been the number one resource I have used to stay ahead of problems even though I have almost no problems? Prime example are the wonderful aftermarket Aluminum replacement cooling pipes to replace the God awful failure prone plastic crap installed at the factory. Not much chance you (Or your mechanic) would hear about this if not on the forum either.

Thanks for your insight, I am aware of the problems associated with the car but was mostly trying to stay with a year when jag was owned by Ford. I've never had any of these types of warranty before but figured I wasn't alone in the situation of needing one, are they all rip offs ?

Good Morning,
just a tip from a guy who learned the hard way. Several years ago I bought a warranty from a company that advertised on tv nationally. I thought I did my due diligence by
checking the internet for reviews for which unfortunately, there were very few. Buying a used luxury car is a big gamble but I felt that buying a warranty would give me
piece of mind. Well, I never did have to use the warranty , but about two years in, I received a letter from the Florida Attorney General stating the company had
declared bankruptcy and had no assets. I wound up losing $3500 which was the cost of my warranty so be very careful if you must buy a warranty, I would also
imagine the cost of the warranty would be very expensive and wouldn't cover much of the problems that you will encounter.

I agree with Clubairth1 entirely as I am NOT a do it yourselfer and it seems that every time something goes wrong or a part is worn out, the cost to me is about $3000.
I love my 2012 XJL but its no different than a 2012 Mercedes or BMW, these are expensive cars to repair and I wish I had the knowledge of the great Forum members.

Best of luck

What does your research show about the pricing? Have you shopped comparables, or you're just buying the first one you saw for sale?

@Tiggernlizzy, +1 on the advice provided above.

Set up a savings account and pay into it every month as you would if paying for a 'warranty' from a third party provider. At the end of a year or two, you'll have enough funds to cover many of the 'surprise' repairs that may crop up.

Ford sold Jaguar and Land Rover in 2007, so the vehicles made after that did have some Ford inspired design, but Tata are the current owners of both marques.

Have a Jaguar specialist perform a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) on any vehicle you consider. If the seller is unwilling to have a Jaguar specialist inspect it prior to your purchase, walk away.

They don’t charge for a quote, so just send them your info and they will quote you based on several different plans they offer. Then compare the price of the quote vs the price of the car. Btw, of course they will not cover any preexisting issues, and there is a waiting period before ant repair will be covered.

Default Warranty

Thanks I talked to a couple of them and carchex seemed like the best deal for the platinum coverage, wasn't cheap but sounds like it would cover just about anything, this was a bucket list car and not all sure if it's worth the expense between the added insurance and warranty to have a car I'm probably only going to drive a few hundred miles a year

I am in the same boat...

I am looking for a 2018-2019 XJL.

After Googling - "best extended warranty for Jaguar" - I eventually found this site:

https://www.marketwatch.com/guides/c...nded-warranty/

I filled out the online questions for quotes from Endurance, CarShield, and CarChex

Endurance was the only one to give me a quote right away (via e-mail) - the other two kept calling and leaving messages to call them to "talk" about it, etc.

Endurance quoted me $93 a month (for a 2018) for their highest plan.

The problem is finding out exactly what the plan all covers.

Someone on here also suggested to go to a credit union (become a member?) and they have some good plans at good prices.

Just wondering if they actually pay out if you file a claim,

If this truly is your reality then I think any X351 will hate you for never driving it enough, and it will make you suffer the consequences.

But when you can drive it, there is a LOT of satisfaction.

I have no doubt I'll love driving it but I hope it will forgive me for not driving it everyday 😂

Me recommendation is if you have a Jag Dealer near you or you know ask them about these "warranties" to see which ones they have the best results with.

You guys are spelling insurance wrong.

An aftermarket "warranty" is an insurance policy that pays out in the event of mechanical failure. They are insurance companies and they're incentivised not to pay out, versus a manufacturer's actualy warranty where they are incentivised to look after you to uphold the reputation of the brand (whether that actually happens or not is a different conversation!).

Yes I've looked at dozens of these , different year, mileage but they all pretty much seem to be close in price, but according to KBB they are all overpriced. I guess they must be selling at the price they want because I've seen 8 of them I had saved be sold

Agree w/NBCat: Put maybe $100 xtra in a special savings acct. and use only for auto repairs/maintenance.
I’m one of the old ones on this site but have had my 2012 xjl portfolio since 2014. Dont’ regularly drive the car. Am pleased w/this vehicle. Also I have annual maintenance done by the dealership when the reminder comes up; and I must drive 90 minutes to my closest Jag dealership but I enjoy it so it’s no problem for me. If you get this vehicle my recs: 1-keep it clean because it will always be noticed, 2-always lock the car when you get out even it it’s just to go into the garage because the battery will drain if you don’t, 3-try to stay up with any maintenance even it might cost a couple extra $$$$, 5-establish a great relationship with the service advisor because sometimes they can cut you a break.
Enjoy the Jaguar if you, or when you get one.

I saw an xjl on the web a couple wks ago. It was white and looks beautiful. Don’t recall where it was located however. I almost contacted the dealership
to move up from my 2012 to this 2019 but I decided to stay w/mine. Good luck.
