Default 2012 XJ with a few issues

I have a car that I bought back in February. Right now I've got few problems:

#1 - Parking aid only works in reverse. You can park against a wall, and no warning will go off. As soon as you put it in reverse the warnings go off like crazy.

#2 - Cruise control turns off when you go over a bump

#3 - Phone controls on steering wheel intermittently stop working

I think #2 and #3 are related... perhaps a wiring harness issue in the column.

Any ideas?

#1 is by design. You have to manually press the parking sensor button to activate the sensors when driving forward. They only activate automatically in reverse.

My '12 XJL is still under its original warranty so I presume yours may also be under the original warranty. And if so please have the dealer check these systems.

I agree, number is by design, only in reverse is the parking aid automatic. As for 2 & 3, its possible it could be in the clockspring in the steering wheel. If it's still in warranty, just take it to the dealer. It's possible there might be a code logged or switch going open circuit.

The clockspring would be my first thing to check too as they are wear components. Sometimes a bit of contact cleaner and a few full turns can resolve it if it is out of warranty.

The steering wheel contains an airbag (which has to be removed to gain access anyway) so be sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal, wait 2 minutes, and when removed the airbag should be stored somewhere where it cannot cause injury should it go off (I normally put them in the boot/trunk, but be sure to put a towel over the trunk latch whenever you have the battery disconnected on an X351 to prevent it engaging and locking you out. I made that mistake once, and of course my only jump leads needed to unlock it via the front fuse box were also locked in the trunk.

my 12 XKR has fallen out of set cruise control on a hard bump before. Not sure why. it easily resets and goes about its business until the next huge bump!
