2012 XJL Portfolio to 2014 XJL Portfolio

2012 XJL Portfolio to 2014 XJL Portfolio
My 2012 XJL Portfolio V8 is being replaced under the CA Lemon Law.
Jaguar is replacing this with the 2014 XJL Portfolio V6.
Jaguar seems to have discontinued the V8 option and replaced with a model with 45hp less and only a 6 banger ...
Is there anybody out there that likes this change? And if so, what are the advantages other than a slight improvement in MPG?
We also have wooden tray tables which have also been canned . . . -(
Thank you for your feedback.

Of course the 2014 won't be quite as quick (0-60 in 5.7 seconds versus 5.4 seconds), or luxurious (i.e. no rear tray tables), and lacks the prestige of having a 5.0 Liter V-8; the resale/trade-in value of a 2014 versus a 2012 is substantial, and you will save on gas. So, on balance, if I were you (which obviously I'm not), I would be satisfied, although I haven't personally experienced the engine stop/start function which I suspect carries it's own penalties in terms of increased engine/starter wear, battery replacement costs, and ambiance.

Well Jesse, you live in a state that has voted Democratic for the last 22 years, and voted for Obama 60.24% versus Romney 37.12% in the last Presidential election. I kind of thought you might have some inkling of why you are going to be driving a V-6 instead of a V-8.

If so, I'll take delivery in one of those States ...

I'm sure that would be a Supercharged V8 for an additional $10K plus. Such a shame Jaguar seems to now have the same price for 45hp LESS with seemingly zero V8 385hp option ....

I have had dealings with BMCD and found them very competent. I bought my 2001 XJR slightly used from them and had it trucked to Atlanta. As for the lack of a NA V8 in the US that is a small loss. The 2014s have the advantage of an 8 speed ZF transmission that is a significant step up in performance and economy. while I think you will notice the difference the new trans, improved suspension and the phenomenal Meridian Audio will make the small loss in power more palatable. However, if you move to the 470hp supercharged V8 you just may fall in love again and be smiling from ear to ear.

I am very happy with my 2014 portfolio v6
Hi Jesse
Wanted to tell you that I just stepped out of an Audi A7, dual supercharged V6. I was hesitating on getting the 6 cyl. XJL, since I had the 8 Cyl XJ8 10 years ago. I was concerned, as you are, as to do I give up on the gas mileage and go for the 8, or go for the 6. I opted for the latter, and here is what i have to say thus far:
1. - Ample power on hills and quick need for acceleration
2. - Not as quick as the A7, but then again the 7 was a beast on acceleration
3. - Despite #2 above, still plenty good for the get up and go that it needs.
4. - Replacing a car on lemon law is serious stuff. For Jag to give you this car as a replacement is "BIG" and I don't think you will be loosing on this, excepting for the "Pony's under the hood".
5. - The eco boost is not as bad as people are saying Is it surprising that the light doesn't go off, or that the car rumbles on starting from a stop etc., yeah for sure. But I have learned to turn it off, and not concerned about the light on the dash always being on.
Everything else about this car after 4 days is awesome, and I am totally happy with it.
This serves as a "Vote of Happiness" from a rookie new XJL Portfolio owner.
Good Luck, and hopefully by now you have replaced your car and have the same views that I have listed above.
Let me know please.
Regards,
Joe

Expect the replacemnt XJL in a few weeks. As we have a wine tour business in Napa Valley, I'm telling all my clients that ride in The Jag how wonderful the car is and just as importantly how solid and respectful The Jaguar Corporation is.
We have just purchased a 2013 Supercharged Land Rover Sport, so that puppy has 510 ponies and is a BLAST.
Will post as soon as we reeceive the replacement.
All the very best,
David

The 90 degree V6 in these modern Jags is really a variant of the 5.0L V8 with 2 cylinders chopped off and counterweights in place of the pistons, etc.
Personally, I would not want the V6 if sound and vibration was important.
Why did they get rid of the rear tray tables? I guess they were fairly useless, but still a cool feature!

considering this purchase for work
hello
i work in a luxury transportation service field. i usually buy a slightly used car fairly new and get rid of it every 3 years.
i dont no anyone with a Jag and this new body has caught my eye for sometime.
im wondering what the common issues are on these babies. im looking to get a 2013-2014 xj 6cyl awd. im tired of the lexus and benz options. looking for something different. i drive A LOT. gonna be putting at least 30k a year on it.
the price range i found was a lot better than the s class and ls series from lexus.
im considering an E class but this jag im looking at is only 5k more
anyone no about the suspension replacement? around what mileage can i expect to get it done? and if theres a common issue(s) that will need service.
im used to the issues on the benzs and lexus which is the reason i keep going back to them but like i said i want this jag lol
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I noted that Jay_Transporter also started a new thread that is identical to his post #16, above. To avoid duplication, replies to his inquiry should be posted here: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...yl-awd-165821/

Yes sir so very true. My Portfolio is with the V8 and I'm finding myself laughing at the # of Prius , Dodge Chargers, Camaros, BMWs I see in my rearview. The "freedom" to choose in California is an oxymoron and to think all those 60's hippies protested against such travesty .Tisk, tisk.... Have a good one buddy

The ONLY way you can make an informed decision is to drive the various engines. I have the 470HP 5.0L SC and, although the power is overkill, it sure makes it one helluva fun ride. You couldn't pay me enough to swap it for the current V6 SC - unless AWD was a requirement, since it's available only with the V6.
But that's just me. That's why Jaguar offers a variety of engine choices - to suit everyone's needs, tastes, and desires.
