Default 2016-2018 Android Auto / Apple CarPlay Update

Hi All,

Does anyone know if it is possible for a Jaguar Dealer to install an update to put Android Auto / Apple Carplay into a 2016 Jaguar XJL Portfolio? I ask because the infotainment systems visually look the same from 2016 to 2019 (2019 being the year it comes pre-installed).

If it is possible, is there a link (or service bulletin) anyone can share so that I can bring to a dealer to prove it is indeed possible?

Thanks!

UPDATE: Below is the latest response I have received from a Jaguar Dealer.

"Don't believe it's available to download on the 2016 model years. Only 2018 and above"

I will continue to update the OP as I search for an answer.

I thought the same thing but I asked one of the dealers here and the sales person just said "Why would you want Android Auto when you already have GPS built in". Wasn't the most helpful response so I wanted to ask here in case I'm the crazy one for asking if it is a possibility haha

Good luck getting a straight answer from the dealer.
I live in NC and have three Jaguar dealerships I could visit and all three have provided me with a different answer as to which model year accepts the Android Auto / Apple Carplay update.
I would love to find some type of confirmation on what years can accept the update.

Yes that's a bit sad but car salesman are just salesman and not really car guys for the most part.
I am watching all this because I want to use the Chinese Android mod and add the bigger screen to my 2014 model along with the apps.

Dug deep and it's 2018+ XJs because 10.2 in screen is required and that started in 2018.

The 2016-2017 XJs have the 8 in screen.

Good news. Confirmed with dealer that my 2016 XJL is eligible for the below announced Android Auto update.

Hummmm, can you please provide the dealerships info and if possible more information on the actual update numbers or anything I could use to show besides this article to my local dealership?

XJgator that would be great news but as you said it was 2018 for the big screen upgrade.
Unless Jaguar is saying it can be installed on the smaller 8 inch screen too?

Yep, the dealership confirmed that my car will be eligible (even with the 8in screen). I just sent them the article I posted here.

I will update here once the dealer gets the update from Jaguar and I bring my car in.

Default No Apple Car Play for 2016, 2017 or early 2018 models

All - I received a letter from Jaguar that I can update my software and it can result in Apple Car Play (or Android Auto). I had the update done yesterday, I picked up the car after hours. When I checked this morning, no car play unfortunately. I called my service rep and he clarified that my 2016 Jag xjl did not have inControl Touch Pro (have only InControl Touch and not the pro). You need to have wider screen (apparently there from 2018 second half and later..) to get Apple Car Play. The upgrade I got resulted in newer software in various modules of the car, but will not get me Apple Car Play.

I am now trying to research this tool https://www.navtool.com/jaguar-xj-xj...e-carplay.aspx to get the Apple Car Play.

They have had a discussion on this across the pond and there are actual people that have received the update with the smaller screens so who knows?

My question is why would the send you a letter regarding the upgrade if it didn't apply to you. My thought is you may want to contact Jaguar USA and ask if you are, indeed, able to be updated as they sent you a letter regarding the upgrade.

I did this, and Jaguar NA replied,

"Thank you for contacting the Jaguar Customer Relationship Center. We appreciate your inquiry. For the appropriate information, please consult your local Jaguar dealer. All technical questions, advice and recommendations are handled through our authorized dealer network. Either a parts or services guide will be able to assist. You can locate your closest retailer online at www.jaguarusa.com, under "Locate a Dealer". We do apologize for the inconvenience."

My dealer told me it was applicable to my vehicle (2017 SC, ICTP, 8" display), but having read horror stories about ICTP update issues and nothing being wrong with my current setup, I don't want to go first!

Yes, I've received the same generic response BUT I've called them and created a case hopefully to receive some type of results.
I had the update done last Friday and no big change.

A few questions for clarification if you wouldn't mind:

1. To confirm, you have had the Service Action H251: ICTP update performed on your vehicle?
2. If so, what year and what size ICTP display is your vehicle?
3. If so, do you now have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality?
4. If so, do you have any other new ICTP functionality?

Tia!

1. Yes, I had the H251 update done Friday 11/1/19 at 1:30 p.m. scheduled appointment.
2. I have a 2016 XJR LWB with the smaller 8" display.
3. I do not have Apple CarPlay/Android Auto functionality.
4. The only thing I've really noticed is the update screen and most importantly the version is now 19B.
If you read through the link I posted this was the biggest change that brought smaller and larger screens around for the update to work.
It took about 3-hours for this update to happen.
