Default 2016 Map Update

I saw were there was a map update for the Jag XJ that was released in July. It is dated 2016 with the last 4 part numbers ending in 3687. Has any one purchased the update and if so what do you think?

Thanks MHT.
The Navigation system is probably the only thing I dislike about this automobile.
I've seen forum members in the past speak about problems they had installing the nav map update. I hope there will be additional comments to come and other member's experience with installing the map update.

I do not know of to many owners who are overly happy with any factory Nav.
I am ok with the Nav but using the Nav on my IPhone is much better.
I have never installed the map update in a Jag and this will be a first if I do so but I have had no problems with other cars that I have owned.
You have to follow the instructions to a
tee as you often times will not get a second chance.
I will report if I get the update and will let all know how the down load went.

Yes, you are correct but it is for the XJ.
I called in and confirmed that I would be the correct update for my car.
When ordering you must give your VIN for activation.

I updated mine and to be perfectly honest, have not seen any improvement over the map that was on my 2014 model, personally i would save your money.

I decided I would give the update at least one try this time. It took 2 1/2 hours to load it. It takes about 5 minutes just to see the first 5% complete register. It register appx 5% every 5 minutes or so. I had no problem loading it at all, just a long process.
There does appear to be a difference in the appearance of the screen, indicating that there has been some update to the previous map. When I get out on the highway I will try a couple routes that I know there have been some changes to and see how the Nav handles these changes with the new map update.

I do not know how significant the map update is, all that I can say is the NAV got me to where I needed to go. If I do not get anymore than the fact that getting the map update and reading about and testing features that I have never tried before, than for me it the map update was well worth it.
Checking the update has given me a deeper appreciation for the Nav system in this car as I now think that it one of the best factory Nav Systems I have used.
I enter all my destinations using voice command and unless I get something wrong I rarely have to repeat my self.
One thing that I did observe with the update was before the update when I gave the command to enter the destination after completion I had to hit GO but now the Navigation starts the route guidance without me having to hit go.
Maybe I was doing something wrong before , I just do not know. As I stated earlier installing the update caused me to check out allot of the Nav features that I never tried before.
IMO to purchase the update or not to purchase is more like better safe than sorry. It also depends on just how much you use the Nav.

The only draw back with the Nav update in the Jag XJ is you cannot bring up any information to tell you what version you have.
You do not have a second way of confirming that the update loaded.

Update: Another poster posted info on how to check Nav for the map version. As the information that shows on the screen is different from that which is on the packing slip, I am now trying the verify the GEN 2.1 HDD SAT NAM 2016 (14Q3) as actually being V30-15-02 which is what is displayed on the screen.

How to Display Nav Version X351 XJ

How do I check the map version of my customer’s Gen2.1 Navigation System?

• First, select, ‘Navigation’, from the ‘Home Menu’ screen.

• Next, choose ‘Nav Menu’ followed by ‘Destination Entry’.

• Then, press and hold the colon at the end of ‘Destination Entry:’ that is displayed in the header bar.

• Once the Diagnostic Screen is displayed; Select ‘Parts Information’.

• Finally, locate the map version number shown at the bottom in the ‘V XX.XX.XX’ format. The middle two digits signify the map version year.

• Not sure how to exit screen, but turning off ignition and exiting car and double locking (horn beep) and then unlocking car after 30 seconds gets back to normal screens

NOTE: car does not need to be running just press start button without applying brake so engine does not start works fine.

It does work but I am seeing V30-15-02. I am not seeing GEN 2.1 2016 unless V30-15-02 is the same as GEN 2.1 2016

I went out and retried it and got it to work. My packing slip says, Jaguar GEN 2.1 HDD SAT NAM 2016 (14Q3).
The NAV Parts Screen reads, V30-15-02. I believe that these are the numbers for tahe updated version that show up on the Nav Screen.

It is interesting that when I contacted the Nav Map company the version number is not recognize. They only recognize the GEN 2.1 so they are unable to tell you that the V30-15-02 is the same thing.
They advised me to contact the dealership or Jaguar but you got with me before the dealership.
I thought the 15 was the key but was not quite certain because the update is GEN 2.1. 2016.
Thanks again.....
