I'm thinking of purchasing a 2016 XJL with 67000 miles on it and has 21 service history, one owner, and no accident reported. Is this a reliable purchase being that it is beyond the factory 60000 mile warranty?? Thoughts??
Depending upon the price of the car and the results of a pre-purchase inspection performed by a Jaguar expert, it may be. Personally, I would run away from it as fast as I can go. Increase your budget and purchase a CPO car with a warranty.
When I purchased a Rolls-Royce a number of years ago, I was told by RROC members that there was no more expensive car to own than a cheap Rolls. My personal experience indicates that the same is true of Jaguars, only more so. I bought the best I could find and afford in both brands and was rewarded with a great ownership experience with my Rolls and a lousy one with my Jaguar XJL. I thank God that it was under warranty and that I had the good sense to ditch it before it bankrupted me.
Whereabouts in Virginia are you? I'm in the Shenandoah Valley.
Not really familiar with Hampton, but when we ditched our XJL a couple years ago we bought a new Cadillac XTS from Suttle Motors in Newport News; same general neck of the woods, I suppose!
For that price you should be able to find a low mileage one, or spend a bit more and get a CPO. However, note that 2016 models had a 5 year warranty, so a car sold in, say, Jan 2016 currently has a year of warranty left - if you don't hit the mileage limit.
So I would get a low mileage 2016, or a 2015 with CPO.
Hello Selamime,
When we were looking for XJL.s with the supercharged 5.0 liter V8 last summer the pickings were extremely slim, unless you wanted black or a black interior,
which we didn't. After an exhaustive internet search finally found our caviar red 2014 XJL with only 55,000 miles in at a dealer north of Dallas. Bought it and had it
shipped. We love the car! I bought a 2004 XJ in 2010 and added a $2,000 extended warranty to take it to 100,000 miles. My salesman said I didn't need it
and he was right. Only had a $120. air pressure indicator go bad in the next 50,000 miles. Our friends in Peoria drive it now.
Our 2014 XJL cost $94,000 new and we bought it for a third of that. I drive in northwestern Illinois and always feel I am driving the most handsome and
best performing car in sight no matter where we go. If you can find an XJL that you really like, I would say go for it. In my nine years experience of
owning Jaguars, I would say that the dealer who is going to look after your car is going to prove more important than what you pay for it. There is a reason
why the owner's manual includes check ups to 200,000 miles. Jaguars are supposed to run well for years and years.
Sincerely yours, Jim and Gwynne French
So Thank you all firstly for your feedback. I did see cars with lower miles and a better price. My dilemma is I want a 2016 or later because that is when the headlights changed and I like the new lights. It also is the only portfolio with the brown interior at this price point within 100 miles. I've never had a vehicle delivered, not to comfortable with purchasing a car without actually seeing it or test-driving it. I really love the portfolio seats with the cross stitching and the brown interior. I'm also nervous because people keep mentioning how costly they are to repair, but no one seems to talk about the reliability or the lack thereof. It seems like hit or miss but most seem okay, but that's an expensive risk to take. Some say its an everyday car and some say its not. I guess I can wait for the best deal or like stated increase my budget. I have two working vehicles I just don't like my current car but I don't know what I'm going to do. maybe I will wait a little while longer and maybe a better deal will arise.
I added the LED head lights to my 2014 XJR and I LOVE them.
So you don't need the late model just for that if your willing to add them?
Mine is an everyday car because it's my only daily driver. 42K miles and 2 repairs. Water pump and 1 O2 sensor.
Very happy with the car.
But I did not see if you can DIY? That is what makes it work or not.

Our 2010 XF has 130,000 miles on it and our 2004 XJ8 is now with friends with 128,000 miles. Both running great. I bought an extended warranty for the XJ8 when I bought it in 2010 with
66,000 miles on it. The salesman said I was wasting $2,000 dollars and wouldn't need it. He was right. By 100,000 miles a $120 tire pressure sensor was the only part that failed.
The certified used cars I think are only warranted to 50 or 60 k. I would consider your purchase.
Hello Etip,
Gwynne has a 2010 XF Premium with the 5.0 liter V8 (382 h.p. I think) and I drive a 2014 XJL supercharged 5.0 liter V8. (470 h.p. ) Her XF is more nimble than the long wheel base XJL, but I have a little more power. Both cars weigh just over 4,000 lbs. We live in the country so we have ample opportunities for fun accelerations on some empty roads.
After your 2009 XF supercharged I think you might miss the engine with a 3.0 Portfolio. although the luxury cabin of the XJ is wonderful. I would say it all depends on how you like to
drive and how many opportunities you have to let your Jaguar engine stretch its legs they way it yearns to do.

So in the end, what did you do, and how did it work out for you?
I would run away from it because of the mileage. Have patience and don't be in hurry. Put the word out to dealers in big drivable radius that you want a "pristine" XJ and wait for it. Help the process by searching the CPO national dealer listings for a low mileage car. They all look pretty from a few feet away, but wait for the cream puff. Make sure it was dealer maintained with the right oil and had a water pump replaced if nearing 50K. miles. I always get a CPO.
