Default 2019 XJ going all electric

I had a quick search and couldn't see anything so sorry if this has been discussed before but I thought this article in a UK car magazine about the 2019 XJ was quite interesting.

I know these magazines have a habit of creating their own renderings but it is still interesting that the next XJ might be all electric so enjoy your V8's while you still can!

+1. And a 4-door, 4-pssenger convertible version would be great!

u102768, I can see them offering a version that is all electric, but I can't see the whole line going all electric. There are too many that are still "stuck" on gas engines as "the motor to have". I admit that you can get a lot of performance out of an all electric vehicle (look at the Tesla P100D). But, that is a very small part of the market at the moment and the Tesla comes at a price for the manufacturer.

I agree with the others that having a convertible option would be great, but with the current safety standards and limit units being produced, it would require a lot of engineering to make it happen, especially with the all aluminum body.

Jaguar did it with the all-aluminum X150 (2006/7-up XK/XKR coupe and convertible), so it's doable with the X351 successor but highly unlikely due to cost and market shift to crossovers/SUVs.

Jaguars been running a commercial for the SUV version pretty heavily lately.

Perhaps they have seen this video and are trying to get ahead of the curve:

As much as I like large petrol engines (see my signature), the video makes quite a compelling and logical argument about how quickly electric and autonomous cars will take over. If I keep my recently purchased XKR for 5 years I can see it being the last car I own with a petrol engine or at least as a daily driver, and possibly even the last car I own!

I only do around 3,000 miles a year and my daily commute is around 5 miles so I am an obvious customer for an electric car and if I can summon an autonomous one to my door and read the paper on the way to work, why wouldn't I. I can keep the XKR as a weekend play thing until parts are no longer available for it or get something really exotic if the resale value of petrol cars plummet.
