Default 285 doable on back wheels?

So I'm over a year in with my xjl ss and just had service done. I'm just a little over 16k miles and need new tires. I have the factory wheels Mativa 20" and I've thought about switching them out but I like them a little too much. I was wondering if anyone had changed their tires and if there were opinions on other tread patterns/brands. Also I wanted to see if I could go with 285 on the rear instead of 275. Just to have a little wider. . .

Also I'm planning on turning all the chrome black on the exterior. The grill, leaper on the trunk, xjl letters, door trim and the little bit on the handles. Since some of it it plastic I cannot powder coat so looks like paint is the way to go.

16K miles and you need new tires? I can see you've been using that SS engine to it's capacity.

Sorry, I haven't changed the back tires, but any decent tire shop should be able to answer this question for you. It's all about rim width, profile of the tire, and then the width of the actual tire. There's some kind of equation that they use that will tell you if they are doable or not. Typically, yes, you can upsize a bit, but the final answer is going to have to come from the folks mounting the tire.

Post up a picture of your car when you do it all "murdered out" like that. Not my style, but I can appreciate a well done custom paint job!

I'm with you on this one RippedPuma. Some one on this thread posted a picture of his XJ blacked out including rims and it didn't go over very well..........

Ha! Yes do kind of have a heavy foot I need to change all 4 tires...

I'm not a big fan of completely blacked out either. My rims are gun metal grey from the factory because it's a ss and the cars white with a black interior. I have 15% on the tint now but am planning on switching to limo all around. I know super illegal but I'll live. Also just wanted to paint the grill, leaper, brake calipers and the metal trim on doors. Not planning on painting the wheels or getting blacked out lights... Drawing inspiration from the anniversary edition. I think that is a beautiful look well except the wheels - I like mine better

Got my new tires today - I should have gotten them sooner! Ended up with same size in the front and went with 295/35ZR20 on the back wheels. The look pretty sick on the back wheels. I love my SS rims and didn't want to change those. So with rating required to be 102Y in the rear I ended up with 105Y. Only one brand that could do a matching set in that size so had no choice but to go with the Pirelli P Zero. They use the same but run flats on the BMW 7 series. Obviously I didn't go for the run flats. All city driving for me and performance over convenience always!
