3.0 SC oil change?

3.0 SC oil change?
I just picked up a new XJ with the SC 3.0 engine. Before I got out of the dealership they introduced me to the service manager so I would know who to bring the car for its oil changes. I told him I would rather change it myself as it takes less time than driving to the dealer and back. He said the oil has to be sucked out the top as the drain plug is not meant to be removed. Does anyone know if there is ANY truth to that? If so, then I am fine with getting a pump. Is is pumped out from the oil fill opening?
What scan tool will reset the service lamp for oil change indicator?
thanks

Sounds very odd to me ! So why have a drain plug at all, then ? However sometimes service instructions for many cars are to replace the drain plug when doing an oil change.
BTW, it is a service, not just an oil change, so the car is inspected for various safety aspects at the same time. You could, of course, ask for confirmation from Jaguar NA stating name of dealer and service manager. If you do things yourself, don't be surprised if the warranty is invalidated.

In the US they cannot deny warranty coverage if scheduled maintenance is not done by the dealer. It can be done by anyone.
Upon closer inspection it appears that there is a tube in the middle of the oil fill opening that I assume goes down to the bottom of the pan. This will make it quite easy to connect a pump to remove the oil. It they were nice enough to make the oil filter accessible from the top I won't even have to put the car on my lift for an oil change!
In the oil fill hole I also noticed the SMALLEST timing chain I have ever seen on a motor vehicle, including my 90cc Honda motorcycle from many years ago. I hope Jaguar knows what they are doing with the miniature timing chain.
