Default 4 year old XJL sunroof leaking

Hi All,

My 4 year old XJL has starting leaking around the light cluster in the front and also from the sunroof control switches, I suspect the sunroof seal has or is failing allowing water ingress. Has anyone else had this problem, also how easy is it to replace the rubber seals around the sunroof.

Need to speak to my local dealer about the problem, not sure if this will be covered by the extended warranty I have on the car.

Regards,
Andy

You might also have the moon roof drains plugged. Do you park under trees?

I agree with clubairth1. Start by retracting the moonroof/sunroof and look at the drain pan at both front corners. I just went through a similar problem with my 2006 X350 and guidance in that forum recommended running a piece of weed whacker line down the drain tube. If the tubes are clogged, the water collecting in the pan will spill over.

Check the drains first. Doing so is no cost.

Weed Whackers are in the States to trim the grass along sidewalks, etc. They use a nylon line on a spool to actually cut grass and is spun by a motor. The nylon line is what cuts the grass. Some are gas powered, some are electric with a cord and now they come battery powered. Here in the states, we buy them at home improvement stores such as Lowes and Home Depot and at Walmart.

Default Weed whacker

Thanks all for the replies have been away in Spain for the last 7 days so not able to get at pc, in respect of my last question what is a weed whacker - we call this device a 'Strimmer' here in the UK, once I read the description I knew immediately what you guys are talking about. I have one and a spare coil of the nylon wire and so will check for myself the drain pipes are clear.

Thanks to all who replied to my question , the help is very much appreciated.

Regards,
Andy
