it's not, torque numbers would be similar

we have multiple XF, xfr jaguars with over 700 hp ,including one with nitrous pushed very hard at tracks and doing 10s in 1/4 mi and here are no transmission issues . So 600 is not a problem at all for this transmission.

In all the tunes I have seen they limit the torque to the 516 foot pounds. One of the most popular is VAP a sponsor here. There are a lot of references to them on F Type forum.

Say what you will - if your transmission is a newer trans, then that power may be attainable.
The 6HP28 is listed on ZF's data sheet as being capable of 550 ft lbs. There are always engineering factors of safety, but there are tradeoffs when heat and friction exceed expectations, so it's not something that someone can say is "no problem".

The newer 8 speeds can handle more.

I have read that both 8-sp and 6-sp units are rated at 700Nm/515lb-ft. No difference in load limit. Can you share the info source of 550 rating. I hope that it is true

I could care less what VAP does. I was asked the question regarding the limit on the transmission on my tuning. My answer is the six speed can handle quite more than 516lb and do it safely..

I have heard that the trans can handle way more even upto 25% higher. Alex, does your tune remove the soft-limit in the gearbox that prevents the torque to go beyond 700Nm?

Sorry, I believe you are right. To be honest, I thought the 8 sp had higher input torque max.

https://www.wardsauto.com/news-analy...p-transmission
I truthfully could not find a more definitive confirmation, but this is an old article. I confirmed in person as my best friend works for ZF and designs torque converters. He had a spec sheet issued by ZF I was reviewing and ballpark max is 550 ft lb. Anything more is just engineering data they typically don't release to anyone but the OEM. Again, yes you can go higher than max. The rest is risk/reward and dealing with the unknowns. I argue that 516/550 for a transmission will not make a material impact. This is not a tire where they rate 4/5 times lower than max burst. They do go above and beyond listed for all transmissions.

8HP70 is listed as 516 ft lb on paper.

I don't believe most limit to 516 because that's all that can be done, but I am betting most do that due to the chain of liability that can cause emotional or financial heartburn down the road since that's what ZF lists. I won't put words in others mouths though.

Thanks for sharing. Must be one of the first published data and then retracted to 515lb-ft later on, for liability/legal reasons....

Just for reference on the earlier zf on 4.2xkr The torque is over 500 with our tune And it's handling it just fine and taking quite a bit of abuse
