Default Anyone Updated Navigation?

My 2013 XJ is experiencing a navigation "glitch" . It will lock on "initializing" screen when called upon and not proceed beyond that. Not always but often enough to be an irritant. While in for annual service (today) the dealership has suggested I might want to "update the system" (@ something like $350) given the software is ~ 4 years old.

Before I say "go ahead" I thought I'd check to see if anyone has any thoughts?

This might or might not be relevant for your Model year.

When I had a glitch I cleaned the NAV DVD reader and after that all was fine.

Well, considering the X351 doesn't have a Nav DVD reader.......

Ok I wondered about that so I checked on-line before replying and Nav disks are offered for that year/model. So I guess the on-line info I was looking at is wrong.

if your car is still under warranty, you should make them update the software for free. technically there is a fault, so it should be covered

The dealer updated the navigation no charge for my 2013 XJ. There were no faults, but I had heard there was a 2017 map update and asked about it. I am unsure if the map update has OS update, though, and it may or may not fix the issue the OP is having.

Our cars have a hard drive-based navigation system. All map updates are done via USB memory stick and can be ordered from Navigation.com.

You can buy the updated map for $199 plus a few bucks shipping. Follow the simple install instructions and the software will update as you drive the car (it takes a couple of hours). You don't have to do it all in one hit, the system remembers where in the process it was when you shut the car down and then starts from that point the next time you drive. Best of all, your car doesn't have to sit there idling for 4-5 hours which seems to be what happens when the dealer does it - and you save $150

The dealer has indicated they did a "navigation system update" (not clear what this involved ) but they believe it will solve my issues. This was covered under warranty. I pick up the car from service today - so we will see.
