I haven't seen a post on this for ages, at least most of last year as I recall.

My XJL2011 completely stopped making any noise after the second recall/fix done on the roof in June 2012. The first fix (Jan 2012) did not really work and the roof was making some cracking noises here and there.

No popping issues on my 2012 so far. About 5K miles.

I had mine worked on 4 times and now the sun roof is silent but the headliner above the driver's seat in the tuck is making cracking sounds. This is roof issue is unfortunately a colossal design failure on the part of Jaguar. I will get the headliner issue addressed during my 24 000km service. Cheers.

My 2011 XJ SC had the crackling in the headliner at drivers left ear. Fixed after two attempts. Sounded like crackling styrofoam when weather was cold. Have not had any problems all this winter though.

I've had my XJ Portfolio for 15 months. Popping and creaking noises appeared to come from the roof area above the passenger side. Opening and closing the roof sometimes worked sometimes didn't. I had the update fitted but it still creaked especially on uneven roads. I noticed on a Mercedes forum that they also had problems and after reading through loads of their reports saw that the recommended solution was a special silicone crease from their service department. After finding out that the grease cost £50.00 a tube I decided to go back to my dealer whilst it was still under warrantee.
On the day I went the roller blind broke, the motor turned but the blind was static. The popping and creaking ceased. I'm now booked in for a replacement blind but will ensure that it is brought to the attention of the service department that the problem isn't with the roof but the blind housing.
Fingers crossed with this one eh?

How did they fix this? I have a 2012 XJL SC and the same issue.

Apparently there is a clip there that was rubbing on insulation. Originally it did it most of the time. After first attempt to fix it was quiet for a few months and then started again when temperature got below about 45 degrees F. There was no official fix so the tech at dealer put something in there to prevent the clip from rubbing. It has worked perfectly so far. However, Service Manager told me there is now an official fix and he was ordering a part from Jaguar. I really don't want to mess with success so I haven't let them do it.

Do you know if there is a TSB or Part Number for this official fix? Did they tell you what might be involved in doing this fix?

Thanks!

Guess what after about a year I am getting a little noise again when the car flexes like hitting a sewer cap makes the car flex and the noise is coming back, maybe because up north the weather is a little cooler .
Any one else?

In continuation to my previous post. After four attempts at my local dealer to fix the creaking problems I went elsewhere. The engineer stopped the trouble immediately before he accompanied me for the test drive. He noted that the glass roof had been tightened down too much. Apparently the panel should float. By tightening it it tends to rub.
So, on the fifth attempt this dealership (Bradford) fixed the problem. New neoprene washes were fitted and torqued correctly.
However, I now have a new problem. The roller blind now makes a noise, opening and closing helps but it look like I'll have to make another visit to get it sorted.

Just you. LOL, only joking. But yeah, I haven't seen a complaint about roof popping in a long time. My roof is still fine and I was one of the early ones with a LOT of roof popping issues. After the altest TSB (and a bit of fine tuning by myself) it was all quiet and lastet for about 2 years now.

maybe it's just a incompetent dealer?

I have a 2012 XJ SC. 2500 miles.

Took it in a month ago for creaking from the roof, and this was fixed after two attempts. However, I now am experiencing popping when going over any sort of undulation on the road. This is in Southern California where the weather has been in the low 80s the past four or five days.

Going to give my service rep a call tomorrow. Starting to get very frustrated given it's such an enjoyable car otherwise.

If someone has a TSB I can reference for the so-called "second fix" I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
Eddie

Once you've registered that you have a problem it should be covered by the warranty. That doesn't necessarily mean it'll be fixed though. I've had three dealerships and 7 attempts overall and it still sound as though I'm driving a van.
I'll certainly look closer at Mercs and Audi's next.

Every jag I've had has had its problems and unfortunately the dealerships I've used have been unable to sort these problems out. However, my local independent jag specialist go the extra mile and fix the problems without fuss.
