Default Attenuated Glass

So, I searched and searched, but can't seem to find the answer to my frustration. We've recently acquired a 2017 XJL. The info that I'd received with the vehicle says it has attenuated glass. But I can't determine which glass is treated this way; just the windshield, or -- for all glass, including the roof!

'm going to tint the windows and want to be able to discuss this with the installer. I'm fairly certain that "attenuated" glass is a barrier to the suns heat. Don't know about "UV" rays. Also, it is supposed to help reduce road noise. However, I understand that it is a barrier to radar detectors, toll road transponders and the like.. My wife's 2019 F-PACE does have an attenuated windshield and has a nicely carved out section right next to the black polka-dot section, on either side of the mirror.

Can anybody with a 2017 XJL , help me out here? First, which windows are attenuated? Secondly, is the black polka-dot section on this car, usable for a transponder?

And, yes, I've asked but still waiting for some feed-back from the dealer.. New Jersey wasn't much help, either.

THANX, in advance.

I can't answer all of your questions like where the cut out is as I don't have the solar attenuating glass on mine to check, but you will be able to tell which pieces of glass have what treatments by looking at the coding printed on the bottom corner.

The first symbol 'Thermal Comfort' is the solar attenuating glass one.

I think the side windows are only available with hydrophobic and acoustic treatments.

KingFala, looking in the manual, the only reference I can find about solar/attenuated glass is referring to the glass on the top of the car that makes up the roof. It is my understanding that the dotted part of the windshield cannot accept the toll pass pieces as this will block the signal that these create. You have to have the pass atleast 1 inch from the dotted section.

My 2013 XJ came with all glass attenuated and the side glass is also acoustic. A couple of years ago my windshield got broken by a section of tire tread kicked up by a car ahead of mine. Insurance paid the dealer and installer to replace the windshield with a windshield that, at the time, was not attenuated glass. So I had Illumar non tinted ceramic IR attenuating film installed. So the short of it is attenuating glass reflects IR suns rays. I'll add that my old windshield did not prevent my Valentin One from working. I also know that F Pace use a metalized film in the sandwiched layer to reflect IR and therefore can block signals.. .

Thank you all, very much!
Based upon your windshield saga, and the clear ceramic film solution, it would seem that the most reasonable solution for selecting the film for my XJL, would be to select Llumar's "dyed film" and forget about the "metalized" or the "ceramic"? I've had the "metalized" in the past and know that won't work for me. Then, since the attenuated glass windows are going to do the heavy lifting of being a heat barrier, I'd have no need to add more with expensive "ceramic" film. It seems that the "dyed" film will be the best choice since now I'm only looking for privacy and blocking the light.

Thanks, also for the info on the F-TYPE.

My '17 F-type has 2 small black dotted area around the rearview mirror, where my radar detector & toll tag goes.

Since my wife's'19 XJ doesn't have the black dotted area, Salesman told us to to put the toll tag sticker on the top corner of the moonroof, no radar dectector, & car wash company has changed their sticker to go on the outside of the windshield instead of inside, since they've encounter so much problems with their equip not able to read thru these windshields...
