Automatic headlight sensor for 2011 XJL
I have a 2011 XJL and DRL's are not possible for this model even by the onboard computers. I would like to know where the sensor is for the automatic headlights. I would like to try covering this sensor making it think it is dark all the time the car is running which will give me DRL function. Has anyone thought about this or tried it?

Fooling the car into thinking it is dark will turn on all the exterior lights (including the headlamp accent lamps), which you can do without any modifications by simply turning the headlamp switch to the "On" position. They will go out a short time after each time you leave the car. IMO, operating tail lamps in the daytime is detrimental to safety, as humans perceive contrast rather than illumination. This is especially true in older X351 models. The tail lamp assemblies were improved later in the model run.
There are several threads on this sub-forum you can search regarding DRLs, including aftermarket lamps and wiring modifications if you are interested in making your car more conspicuous to other motorists. If you're main interest is appearance, that's another story.
