Unhappy Bad transmission mount

Dealer found a "collapsed transmission mount" while servicing my car today. Is this a common failing?

I'm getting it fixed immediately because I've had that issue with former vehicles and a bad tranny mount did the motor mounts no favours.

It's a 2012 SWB with 41k miles on the clock. The car came from Southern California and is now in Las Vegas. I'm wondering if heat and lack of humidity killed the rubber.

Don't know but with the lack of that part failing I think I would just figure it's a one off?
Since the trans mount was bad that would load the motor mounts more and I wonder if they are next? Hope not!

I recommend you check the motor mounts too. The easiest way is to look at the air intake bellows and if they are collapsed on the upper side and extended on the lower side the motor mounts are bad to. In my case I replaced all 3 mounts at the same time. Mine failed due to acceleration runs and holding the brake while revving the engine for fast take off.

That's a good point and here's another suggestion on how to check motor mounts.

Open the hood and sit in the drivers seat. Start car and put it in gear with your foot on the brake. Give the car a little gas while holding the brake. If the mount is bad the engine will raise up a good bit. Now a little movement is normal but it is surprising how far an engine can move!

You can do it in reverse too but going forward is where all the stress is applied as XJsss said.

Thanks guys! I'll do the motor mount checks you suggest.

The extended warranty I have on the car covered a good chunk of the cost. According to the after action report the mechanic also fixed some loose heat shields.

I drove the car home and it felt "different", but maybe that was down the the oil change or my senses being off after two days with an XE diesel. Probably making a trip tomorrow so I'll get a better idea then. My fiance is pretty good at picking up on noises and vibration, so we shall see what she says, too.
