And it's not new!!!

New Lightweight Battery Option for the Porsche 911 GT3, 911 GT3 RS, and Boxster Spyder

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is the first car maker in the world to offer a starter battery in lithium-ion technology. Weighing less than 6 kg or 13 lb, the new battery is more than 10 kg or 22 lb lighter than a conventional 60 Ah lead battery.

The new lithium-ion battery will be available as of January 2010 for the 911 GT3, 911 GT 3 RS, and Boxster Spyder as an option delivered with the car, selling at a price in the German market of Euro 1,904 including 19 per cent value-added tax.

It's been 3 months since my original post - time for an update.

Since it is winter here in the People's Republik the FT is not getting driven as much. None the less, it starts and runs fine even though I get the "Low Battery..." message more often. But it is not consistent, and the inconsistency is hard to explain. A couple of examples.

Last week I got in it and had the warning. Started and ran fine. Drove it about 15 minutes at highway speed, parked it. Got in it about an hour later - "Low Battery ..." Drove it home (15 minutes at highway speed) and parked in the garage.

Got in it yesterday, temp in the 40's - "Low Battery..." Drove it 1.5 miles and parked for 6 hours. Got in it, temp 33 degrees, no low battery warning. Started and ran perfectly. Drove home (1.5 miles) and parked it in the garage and immediately got the alarm.

It probably does need a new battery, but it sure doesn't seem to be an emergency.

I had the same issue with my 2018 E-Pace; message: "start engine now low battery" Called the dealer whom we bought it from; answer " drive it for 30 minutes to recharge" I even put an ohmmeter on it while it was idling, and got a reading of 14.4 volts, which is plenty.I have a 5 year warranty by Jaguar, so when I went for an oil change, tased them to check it. Result: failed the recharge specification, so I got a new battery at no charge. The car has a Jaguar battery, which iOS quite expensive, but I am pleased with the service.
