Post Brake Fluid Capacity and best option?

Hello Jag Fellas

I will soon replace my brake discs and pads at a local garage. Does anyone know how many litres of brake fluid should I buy. I've searched the manual it says DOT 4 ESL but it doesn't mention how many litres. Also where is the best source to purchase the brake fluid.I have searched many parts website but there are dozens of DOT 4 option. I don't know which one is the best.
Along with the brakes replacement I will replace the timing belt. I have ordered the part from Jaguar. Do I need to replace the pulleys in this process?(In case that anyone used local garages and not main dealer. Thank you

Unless you think it's time to drain and replace the brake fluid it should not need to be filled as when brake pads are replaced the caliper pistons are pressed back into the caliper and that fluid is pushed back up into the master cylinder reservoir. As for "belts" if you are referring to the surpentine belt that drives all the ancillaries (alternator, water pump, AC compressor etc.) replacing the tensioner is not mandatory if the tensioner is not weak. The engine uses a chain for the timing not a belt. Hope this answers some of your questions.

+1 on advice from XJsss.

Since brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the surrounding environment and the air, it must be changed when the colour becomes dark, indicating it has absorbed a substantial amount of moisture.

Since the age of the vehicle is unknown and the number of kilometres/miles driven, have the garage performing the work refer to the maintenance schedule for the vehicle.

All manufacturers of DOT4 brake fluid must meet the same specification requirements.

ccrrigi ,

1 litre will be more than enough ,

Any spare parts shop will carry Dot 4 brake fluid ,

As long as it's Dot 4 and properly sealed any brand will do - your choice really ,

Note : If you are replacing the brake fluid , you can step up to a DOT 5.1 , (or commonly called racing fluid ) under heavy braking it will maintain fluid viscosity better .

Good advise from XJsss regarding the belt .

Thank you for your replies.
The car is a 2011 Jaguar XJ current mileage is 115000 miles. When I purchased the car it had full Jaguar service history so I've continued with it, and at 101000 miles I've made an "A" service (like it's called in Jaguar service record booklet).I've booked the car for service and minor repairs and I was not satisfied by the work done by Jaguar dealer (oil filter seal was not fixed properly and oil leaked until I've found stains underneath the car.. + huge bill.. etc) I've checked the previous records from the service record book and it doesn't mention that the brake fluid was changed. Now is time for the new service ( filters oils ..etc) and also I want to replace the brake discs, pads and drain+replace the brake fluid. As for belt.. I know that I need to replace a belt at 112000 miles...On different threads people are saying that is timing belt.I've called Jaguar and ordered the part (I've said timing belt at the phone I don't know if this is correct) I will post a picture with the item to confirm that is the correct surpentine belt
I will change everything at my cousins Garage here in London. I've ordered genuine parts and I don't want to change them at Jaguar dealers. Cheers

That's the correct belt if you've got the 2.7L diesel engine.

Any brand name DOT4 brake fluid will be suitable. Avoid any fluid marked DOT5. It is not compatible with any other type.

Probably not. My reference (out of date) did not mention the 3.0D

Sorry about the belt reference not being for timing, but my reference is based on gas/petrol engines as we don't get any diesels here in the US.
