Brake Pads and Wear Sensor - need advise
#21
Thanks Thermo! But now another question: If I don't pull the EPB at all (just park, block front end, jack up rear, then replace the pads, brake pad sensor, and rotors), will I have to do any recalibrating for the EPB? And should I expect to have to do anything with the ABS sensor if there aren't any codes thrown? Thanks in advance!!

Hi! If you are able to send me your VIN, I can give you a list of part number for the brake pads as well as the brake pad wear sensors. We have had amazing success with Akebono brake pads and have had no complaints. If you'd like just send me the VIN and I will give you the part numbers =) Hope this helps!

When I have done the pads on my 2012, the brakes will not automatically apply themselves. So, park the car, set the parking brake, block the front wheels (front and back), then jack up the rear end. From there, you can release the parking brake and do a pad replacement like you do any other vehicle. You then have 3 options for resetting the EPB:
1) use the SDD software to tell the computer to do a EPB calibration
2) disconnect the battery to force the EPB module to lose its memory, forcing the car to do another calibration,
3) before putting the wheel back on, use a screw driver or other similar rod to manually actuate the parking brake lever. pulling the arm towards the front of the car numerous times until it only goes part way (repeat for the other side).

The X351 does NOT apply the EPB when the car is placed in park for some strange reason?
My S-Type and my Lincoln LS did too but not the XJ. So the EPB won't be applied until you pull up on the center console lever.
I have never had to mess with the EPB when doing my rear brakes.

I don't know if my car is normal or not, or if they changed the behavior of the EPB for later model years.
I would be very happy if it did not apply the parking brakes because I live in a flat area where we don't park on inclines. I haven't figured out how to disable it, even using some instructions I found on here. Those instructions may nor work on my model year.

None of my 2010 XFS, 2010 XFR or 2014 F-Type had/have auto EPB on, I am glad they don't, and there is nothing in any of the Owner Manuals about it so I don't think I could have turned it on even if I wanted to.
In the F-Type but not in either the XFS or XFR whacking the car in D and touching the go pedal automatically releases the (manually applied) EPB.
