Default Cabin Filter

When I was at the Jaguar dealer they informed me my 2011 Jaguar XJL 5.0L with 39k miles was in need of a pollen filter at a cost of $675.42. Obviously I thought this cost was outrageous so I began to investigate. I am assuming that a cabin filter is the same as the pollen filter, is that correct? I contacted my Jaguar parts dealer who quoted a price of $17.68. I then found a You Tube video on how simple the installation, five minutes tops. How can a dealer justify a price like this for a job that cost $20, unbelievable. Do your homework and you will save a ton of money.

Yeah, if that is for the filter, that has to be fraud. Even Jaguar filters aren’t that much. I see Carlsbad Jaguar has the cabin filter at $19.65 retail, and on sale for $14.04. They have the more expensive engine air intake filters at $71.00 a piece retail, ~ $48 on sale (still a rip-off). So there is no way to get to $675 as far as I can see. Maybe the whole air intake box would be that much. Is that cracked?

Did they put the service recommendations in your paperwork? Maybe call them back if not and ask them for the details (parts/labor) of the recommended service, so that way you can best consider your next appointment time (obviously the answer is never, but they don’t need to know that).

I bought the cabin and engine air filters on Amazon for my 2015 XJL Portfolio. Cabin filter was $11.00 and the engine filters (2 of them) were $17.00 each. All filters took maybe 20 minutes to install.

Agreed, if you buy non-Jaguar parts you should easily get all three filters for < $40. There are other air filters for the heat/cool seats too, but they aren’t very expensive either.

Im thinking there must be something else they are charging for. It can’t possibly be for just a pollen filter. That’s why I suggested to verify what the proposed service was for. If they reaffirm it’s just for the pollen filter, I would complain to the GM.

If you do ask them, let us know what they say.
