Default Can I add new coolant to old coolant

I have a 2013 XJ, I bought coolant from autozone Pentofrost NF to add to my old coolant due to a low coolant message. Is it ok to mix with my old coolant?

This is X400 (X-Type), some one will move you to XJ Forum, but I can answer your question: Yes you can mix new coolant with old coolant as long they are same kind.

make sure they're definitely the same kind as otherwise a gel can form, blocking vital passages and then you get engine overheating.

Welcome to the forum murray2000,

I've moved your question from X-Type to X351 forum. This is the place to post questions about your model.

The important things about coolant are specification and strength. Your XJ requires a 50% mix of water and antifreeze to specification WSS M97B44 (colored orange) Extended Life Coolant. Do you KNOW exactly what is in there now? If it was mine (with Winter coming on), I'd flush and refill.

Did you locate source of leak? Also, if the coolant is more than 2 years old, might be better to drain and refill. Never believe the hype about 5 year life. Its rubbish. From the moment it goes in, it starts to degrade, particularly its ant corrosion inhibitors.
