Cold start sputter and black smoke
I have a 2013 Jaguar xjl. 3 liter. AWD.
It is 70 degrees here. Not exactly cold weather.
First thing in the morning, the car takes 2 or 3 attempts some times to start or even if it starts in the first attempt, there is a lot of sputtering and black smoke.
I have already replaced both the MAS (with two new Bosch units - OEM was also Bosch).
The problem remains. The car works fine after cold start issues. Some times it takes 2 or 3 attempts to start.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I'd expect black smoke on cold start-up would indicate oil getting into the intake or cylinders while at rest.
You'll need to look at it closer to find what the source is.
If you could pull the plugs when it's cold & look into the cylinders with a boroscope, you could see if there is any oil accumulating in a cylinder.
But where ever it's getting into the system, it can damage the catalytic converter for the side it is getting in, assuming that is the problem.
