So its not only me.
For some reason BMW's seem to go nuts when seeing Jags and do the most
ridicules things.
Its like giving cats catnip.

Its true about stopping traffic.
Last summer on Water Street , South Street SeaPort, New York City.
I was stopped for the light, the people crossing stopped in the cross walk
looking at the car. The cop had to yell to move them along.
I know some may like the attention but for me its a con I did not
consider. But the XJ, Supercharge, Supersports all look the same. You have to get close
up to read the name. ( Unless you add, by the XJ , in thee back, so it reads XJ510)

 

I'm one of the constant complainer regarding the ride of the XJL. I now have been running the tire pressures around 21 - 22 psi which gives me the ride that I can live with on those long trips that I tend to drive.

A couple of weeks ago, for the first time in nearly 2 years of my ownership of this 2012 XJL I was taking passengers in the back for an extended trip and the roof issue had popped up. I had both front and rear sunroof shades pulled back and the roof popping was really an embarrassment for me, in view of it happening just when I have guests sitting back there. Finally it occurred to me to close the trim covers and most of the noise was filtered out by them. Something to fix at my next scheduled maintenance trip to the dealer. It does not really bother me with the rear sunshade closed.

Otherwise, the only other real irritation the XJL provides me with is a very regular "Low Battery Warning". I had the battery replaced 5K miles back by the dealer but, still, if I open the normally locked doors a couple of times, even for a few seconds, it is almost a given that when I go to start the car, the warning would pop up. Being an Electrical Engineer I investigated the issue and the cause appears to be the ultra-heavy current draws that occur when the door is opened and the two electronic display powers ON. The same symptoms do not manifest in my '12 XF or in my '10XKR. Have to add that if you do not open the doors, the car will start fine even after a 3 weeks-long parking at the airport during one of my extended trips.

 

Our Jag is a week old now so I really can't talk to issues. However, I can say that this car rides like a dream. Highway miles are effortless with smooth ride and responsive handling when going from 75 to xxx to make a pass. There is very little body role as you accelerate through turns, I don't care to "drift" the vehicle through turns either. Watching youtube reviews on any sports car they have all tires smoking as they slide right through the apex.... Senseless... It's been a great ride so far!

 

I bought a used 2011 XJL some seven months ago, and am totally delighted with it, except for excessive brake dust, which I intend to address with ceramic pads and caliper covers in the near future. I did install new Continental Extreme DWS tires, factory splash shields, and some interior cosmetic upgrades, but remain totally impressed with this cars handling, ride, acceleration, and comfort creatures, plus many surprising delights such as the way the transmission is programmed, the way the road lighting anticipates your every move, the sumptuous interior, the way the doors close, etc., etc.Yes the GPS sucks, but I simply use a dash-top Garmin instead.

 

I was in my local indie on Monday for service on my X350. They had a 4 year old X351 in for service and were very complimentary about the reliability and quality of the car. The only thing I didn't like when I looked at it was the dreadful rusting on the brake calipers. My X350 has an aluminium caliper on a cast iron mounting. The cast iron is a bit rusty but not really prominent. For a £50k+ car this needs to be better. OK the brakes work OK, but I for one do like a car that looks good everywhere

 

I just had the Jag in for yearly check up.
Its 2011 Supersport XJ with just under 26,000 miles.
All is well. The rear sensor popped out.
It still works, just pushed back in bumper.
Jag said its under body work and not covered.
If I can find how the hell you get into the bumper
I could fix it in minutes.
The camera and other sensors work, it just the one pushed in
beeps when nothing is there.
No rush.
Also--- rubber on bottom of back window.
You have to open the trunk to see it. One side is coming down
and need regluing. They don't stock this type of glue and waiting
for it to come in.
And of course tires. They passed inspection but will need new next
time around.
As for the old car story of 'break in' time. I think its true.
It runs better -- smoother-- then it did at 10,000 miles.

hi i have a x type jag it keeps saying rear passenger door open but its closed and cursity light wont go out also key fob as stopped working iv changed battery but no luck when i lock it with the key and unlock it again alarm goes of till i put key in ignition then it stops is there any one who can help

 

Ratty, you have a sticky or broken "door ajar switch". Try some lubricant in the mechanism first and then open and close the door a few times.

If that doesn't work you will probably have to replace it.
