Default Considering high mileage XJ

Hey guys,

I just sold my 2006 xj8 (seriously miss it) and I stumbled across a 2011 xj with 131k miles at an insane price. It's a one owner and I'm assuming all highway.

My concern is how these cars are being that this was the first year for them? They're gorgeous and I'd love another xj but I don't want to buy into a nightmare. My xj8 was amazing in terms of reliability and I'd like to follow that up haha

The newly designed XJ or X351 was introduced in 2009 not 2011. Unlike the 2013 and newer models, these have the awesome 5.0 - 385 HP motors! Many of the formerly leased vehicles are showing up now at great prices. I'd wait for something with lower miles.....131K would be too much for me.

Oh I see. Well I didn't think the us got the new xj until 2011. The only reason I'm considering this one is because it's $21.5k!!!!

The 2011 XJ was a new car as far as styling but the mechanical s were a carry-over from the previous model, so were well proven. Most cars today are good for 200,000 miles without major repairs, so at 131,000 the car your looking at has used up ~65% of its care-free life, assuming it was well maintained. Major repairs could be very expensive, thus the low price.

This is true I know most modern cars are capable of 200k. Not sure id say this is 65% used though. 130k in 3-4 years would mean a lot of highway driving, those reducing perceived wear of most cars at that mileage being that it is newer.

$21,500 is a crazy price and I can see the draw.

If the car is cosmetically sound and mechanically solid, just high miles, why not?

I would think with a full service and pre-purchase inspection you'd be good to go. At that price, there is not too much downside even if its a mess.

I would check CARFAX they would report a lot of the history and if there was collision damage before I bought the car.

Also consider the car may have been subjected to a flood, experienced an overheated engine which warped the heads, etc., etc., etc. In other words: Buyer be ware! Good luck.

It is very important you see and test the car with this sort of miles and price. It could be a very good buy as these cars will run the marathon. Check for the noisy roof syndrome fix, (search this forum for "roof cracking, or popping".

Default An update would be great!

It's a lovely car. I bought the same a few days ago as a long wheel base with 26k km. That's approx 16k miles. I definitely paid much more than $22k.

Would 73000miles be to many to consider buying a 2014 xj

I have a US model 2010 XJL. There weren’t many made/sold that year, but they made them. There were no changes made between 2010 and 2011 that I’m aware of.
