Coolant Leak

Coolant Leak
During multi-point inspection, while my car (2014 XJL Portfolio, 41,059 miles) was on the hoist, a coolant system leak was discerned, requiring immediate attention. Yet I have seen no discernable signs one would expect from a coolant leak. Temp gauge stays in normal range, no leaks on garage floor or driveway, no discernable drop in fuel efficiency, etc.
Dealership repair advised: 1 - pipe-outlet; 1 - tube; 1 - pipe heater; 2 - gasket; 1- gasket-indctn ma; 2 - BG coolant. Cost: $1679.88, parts and labor. Why none of the signs of a coolant leak issue?

Bear in mind the engine and gearbox are covered with an undertray that traps any fluid leaks from dripping onto the ground. The best method to discover any coolant leaks is by using a pressure tester when the vehicle has been cold-soaked, preferably overnight. Use the tester to pressurise the cooling system to 1 bar and check for leaks if the gauge begins to drop below 1 bar.
There are several places that can cause a coolant leak on the AJ133/AJ126:

- Water outlet pipe under the supercharger
- Heater pipe connecting backs of both cylinder heads
- Thermostat housing

Thanks for the info; appreciate the pithy yet comprehensive reply; the car is at the dealership as I type this. The way this Service Advisor explained I fully understood. He stated it was a slow leak coming from on top of the engine and that as the leak comes out, when the engine is hot and the leak runs down the side it dissipates before it hits the ground due to engine heat. He said this is why a leak of this natrure is so insidious. You will not know you had a problem until the car starts running hot and lights "light up" on the dashboard and just as you described, this could portend possible catastrophic engine damage shortly thereafter. "Whew!!"

In my experience I NEVER would let the engine overheat as before that I would get "coolant low" warnings and then would either top up if close to the dealer or call AAA to flat bed to the dealer. Once had the issue in Charlotte NC and had the XJ transported by Jaguar / AAA to my local dealer in Roswell GA @ 250 miles.

Picked up vehicle today (08/04/2021) from the dealership "Jaguar Land Rover of Troy" (Troy, MI). During multi-point inspection (as stated from the outset) "coolant low light activated. The system was pressure tested and found coolant leaking from lower coolant outlet pipe. Replaced upper and lower coolant outlet pipes and rear crossover." Parts used: 1 - pipe-outlet; 1 - Tube; 1 - Pipe Heater; 2 - Gasket; 1 - Gasket -Indctn M; 1 - BG Coolant. Total parts: $424.45; Labor: $1372.70
Water pump was not replaced, the issue was not even addressed. Should it have been and why?

If you can see the updated blanked off plastic "Y" fitting then you have the latest and greatest water pump with the part number that ends in 3909.
I guess if yours was not leaking they would not have replaced it. But yes it needs replaced unless you have the current revision.
This thread may help you identify if you have the updated pump. There were a few other changes too that if there does show you have the upgraded-newest pump.
