Coolant light

I have a 2013 XJL that the coolant light is on, there is plenty of coolant in the overflow tank. it looks like it is the sending unit in the tank or a lose wire at the sending unit. I unhitched the tank and reached under it, moved some wires and the problem went away for a day and returned. I called SNG Barratt for a sending unit and they told me I had to purchase the whole tank for $132. does anyone know if the sending unit can be removed from the tank and be purchased separately?

Dennis, what you are experiencing is a common issue, especially with the XF guys. As for replacing only the sending unit, I think this was possible with the earlier units, but the later ones the sending unit is part of the tank. I know I looked at this for my 2012 and with the amount of work that it would take, I just got my hands on a good used tank and replaced it. Supposedly, you can remove a retainer on the top of the stem that has the float. You can then remove the float. You can then insert an additional float device under the original float and this will cause the float to act normal again. If you look in the XF section, there are some fixes there.
