Default Cooling Fan Assembly ?

Hello everyone. This summer i had my 2013 Jaguar XJ in the shop because I was losing coolant. Turned out it was a hose above the turbo that was damaged. I had that replaced and never a problem up until now. My car up to this day has never run hot. But I got a low coolant warning and took it straight to the shop. They filled it and told me to monitor it for a few days. About 4 days later it was low again. I got the warning again. Since I live right behind the shop, i took it right over.

They told me that my cooling fan was not coming on. Note, I have always heard the fan running when i turn the car off.
Is that a different fan ?

they said that i needed to replace the cooling fan assembly. They said they have already checked fuses and relays. And there were no leaks. There were signs of coolant coming rom the over flow and he said that was due to the fan.

I'd like your thoughts on this. Also where is a good place outside of the dealership to purchase the fan at a reasonable price ?
I've looked at Rock Auto and others and just don't know who is a good company to order from ?

Is "the shop" an indy or a Jaguar dealer?

I suspect it's an indy, and they don't have a Jaguar-trained technician. Who told you that your car has a turbo? It doesn't. I suspect that your cooling fan assembly is OK, and your problem is the water pump, which is a known and common point of failure. Hopefully, your car didn't overheat and damage the engine.

If I'm right, I'd have it towed to a Jaguar dealer or qualified Jaguar indy technician. Driving it risks engine damage.

Default I just had to replace the cooling fan Assembly.

I had both a coolant leak under the supercharger from a fitting hose and the fan replaced.

If you go for a decent drive and then pop the hood while the engine is running the fan should be running. Mine wasn't. The used replacement works now.

I read in another post that is a regulator on the fan and not the fan motor. Unfortunately the whole unit has to be replaced. A new one is $1600 and backordered for months. My tech found a used one.

First post, and a bit of a long one, but it may be helpful.

I had a similar problem with my 2010 v8, the cooling fan refused to come on.

Took the car to a so-called "specialist" who spent four hours trying to fix it. Their answer was "It looks like your ECU is faulty, we'll need to order one and code it to the car, it's going to be VERY expensive..."

I politely declined, and thought about selling the car, but I'm pretty stubborn, and hate to be beaten, so I purchased an iCarsoft scanner, and set to work.

First thing I tried was an "Acutation test". Scrolled to the cooling fan, and commanded it to work at 50%, and lo and behold, the fan sprung into life...

So, it wasn't the fan, the ECU was capable of sending a signal, so it must be something else, so a dive into the workshop manual shows that it is activated by the signals from the temperature sensors, of which there are two.

On to live data. Sensor 1 is showing 16 degrees, Sensor 2 16 degrees, outside temperature 16 degrees. Start up, and go for a drive, to get up to temperature.

Back home, connect the reader, and Sensor 1 is at 85 degrees, Sensor 2 is at 16 Degrees... Out with the temperature probe (borrowed from a chef), and the area around sensor 2 is 80 degrees.

Quick trip to the local motor factors, and for the princely sum of £15, I've got a new sensor. 10 minutes to fit, then fingers crossed...

Out for a spin, and the fan kicks in as normal, so problem solved.

Moral of the story? Don't always believe what the technicians say, some of them will just parrot "Computer says no".

It appears in my case, because the sensor hadn't failed completely, it was still giving a (wrong) temperature signal, and was not open circuit, the Jaguar software ignored it.

Mine may be a one-off case, who knows? But you never know, you may be lucky too, it's got to be worth checking.

You can also get repo fans from places like Rock Auto or eBay that work just fine. Mine was new in box, installed myself, and after a quick ECU reflash from my tune kit (This may or may not be needed), I was up and running. Total was $550 or something.
