Default Creaking from both front doors when driving (video)

Hello,

I have a 2011 x351.

I’ve been struggle if for a while with a creaking noise from left and right side while driving over bumps and when the chassis isn’t in a straight position. After a look time searching for the sound, I believe it have to be from the hinges, or the panels where the hinges is bolted. Finally I’ve been able to recreate the sound when barley wiggelin the door back and forth. The same exact sound, just a lot more while driving, is making me go mad here…

Have anyone experienced this?

I have tried to tighten the hinges.

When I hear creaks from the doors. I clean and treat the rubber door seals. Lots of products including the funny Gummi Pflege.
Which I use and recommend.

Might try that first? It's easy and the door seals do collect grime and grit over time.

Thanks, I did clean all the rubber seals just in case it was an easy fix. Unfortunately it didn’t make a difference.

Many of us have experienced similar noises, and have posted about creaks & sounds that sound like they're in the cabin, but actually from the front shock mounts. Open your hood, look at the foam that surrounds the top of each shock & see if it's coming apart.. While looking at the top of the shocks, bounce the front of the car "rigorously", and see if the top of the shock moves within the center of the foam isolator. Also listen for a creak while you're doing it.
It's the problem discussed here:

I have creaky seals and I fixed it with 3M "Ultra High Molecular Weight" (UHMW) tape, otherwise known as "3M squeak reduction tape." I have some rubbercare (Gummi Pfledge) on the way but I tried a couple of other rubber lubes that didn't work before I went to the tape. The tape looks awful though so I hope the rubbercare stuff works!

Anyways if the creaks are occurring with the door open as in the video, that eliminates the seals (unless OP has two creaks).

I used a product recommended on this forum called Sil-Glyde. It worked well on the rubber door seals.

hey there,

I’ve actually done a lot of research on this and tried a lot of divergent stuff. So far I can tule out the wood trim and door caskets. I tried to wiggle the car, but was unable to hear any of the noise at all.

Here is a new video while driving. The sound is definitely from the door mount/Pilar area.

I have changed top strut mounts before on this model XJ. But your sound is nowhere near what I was hearing on that car before we changed the mounts.
So I am not sure?

If you'd like to eliminate the door seals for sure, you can put something between the seal and the paint and go for a drive to see if the noise disappears or changes. I used electrical tape, but you can use masking or packing tape or even paper or plastic sheets... It doesn't really matter as long as most of the door seal isn't touching the metal body.

In your first video (the short) I hear two distinct sounds, a creak and a click. The creak sounds like the hinge mechanism, which I don't think you'd hear while driving because you can only recreate it with the door fully open. The click sounds like it might be either the bolt threads or the face where the Hinge and the door actually meet.. I'm new to jags, but my experience with other vehicles is that when the grease or loctite dry up the bolts start to make clicking noises. I race downhill and enduro mountain bikes, and my race bikes get fully stripped and rebuilt every couple of months so they don't start clicking.

The sound in your second video sounds very much like the sound my XE's door seals were making, so I'd probably try to eliminate them fully. I don't know your car so from there I'd put a bit of 1/2" fuel hose on a small funnel and use it like a stethoscope to narrow down where's its coming from to a smaller area and go from there.

I absolutely looooove finding squeaks and rattles, honestly it's one of my favourite jobs 😂 Feel free to keep posting videos, happy to help if I can

Now I think about it, I'm pretty sure I was able to find the squeak just pressing on the top of the door. I remember if I put my hand about here...

...and pushed against the top of the door hard enough that the car rocked back and forth slightly, it would make the squeak. I'm pretty sure once I found it that way I isolated it using paper, then once I was fully satisfied I'd found the source I used black electrical tape while I waited for the UHMW tape to arrive.

The UMHW tape is not a final solution as it looks pretty average when the door is open...

...but the squeaks were driving me batty so this is a fair compromise for now.

Good luck!

Hello again!

Major update!

Sorry for not updating this in a while. I tried almost everything, but couldn’t find the cause of these noises.

I suspected the noise to origin from the panel around the door hinges on the chassis side. So I called my dealer and begged them for some help. The service manager did some research and found out that there is actually a bulletin on creaking noises from the A-pillar in both sides! Basically there is one or more bad welds in the panel that makes a creaking noise. According to the bulletin you need to drill two holes and put in two rivet on each side. This is supposed to remove the creaking. So at this point I’m waiting for a price for the job…

I’ll update you guys again later

Bulletin JTB00250v4
Part number for the rivet is c2c36026

Thanks as that one includes the right and left A-Pillar and the original one for some reason only indicates the right A-Pillar?
Looks like a not too expensive repair.
Hoping for a quick and complete solution!

Where does one go to find these? I googled the number and found nothing, took the "v4" off it and only found one result with no images.
