Haytham, I would venture to guess that you have moved a wire in the process of changing the leather and this is sending the wrong voltage to the ECU to allow the cruise to work. The wire in question is going to be in the vicinity of the clock spring. If you tell me the year of your car, I can look in the diagrams and see if I can determine which wire is most likely your problem child.

haytham, does this issue also seem to affect the square pad just above the cruise control buttons? If so, you will probably also notice that the LEDs for these buttons will not work at night. If this describes what you are seeing, then odds are, you need to pull the center button back off of the steering wheel and locate a yellow wire with a blue stripe on it. Odds are, this has gotten unplugged and is removing power to the electronics module that controls all the keys and lighting for these components.
If it is only the cruise control buttons that do not function, but you have lighting to these buttons, then you will most likely have to buy a new button assembly as there has been damage to the switch assembly and unless you have extensive working knowledge of electronics, this is probably beyond something that you can repair as this would have damaged the circuit board.
