Driving dynamics:SWB or LWB?

One option not considered so far in this discussion is the 3 liter RWD. I drive a 2014 XJ 3.0 RWD and love the performance AND the 29.8 mpg. It is quicker than the AWD. That 8 speed trans gives it all the acceleration I need off the line. The car corners beautifully. I truly haven't found the need for 4 wheel drive. The car handles fine in the snow. (But then I grew up in Detroit and all we had were rear wheel drive cars in the snow.)

I donīt agree on that. At least Euro 5 engine. I have now 294tkm (184t miles) on clock on my y2010 3.0l Diesel without any problems on it. It is in my daily drive allaround the year, including Finnish freezing winter.
Last May, on MOT test the exhaust smoke value was still 0. One solenoid have failed from engine bay in history of this vehicle (boost by-pass valve)
It even still have original waterpump (sorry, turning the knife ) Original DPF:s, injectors, sensors, intake manifolds... all.. (exept cam belt and rollers)

Well, i donīt think so. Same engine are widely used in PSA vehicles, (Peugeot & Citroen) without major problems either. Propably PSA build more than 10x volumes than Jaguar & Land Rover together with V6 diesel? Biggest difference are the position of DPF. On PSA vehicles the DPF are much closer to the engine, what mean less heating time on DPF burning cycle = Less unburn diesel to the oil.
I also think that most of JLR vehicles in Europe are sold with Diesel? 80%? 90%? At least when checking exsample mobile.de the gasoline 2010-> JLR vehicles are rare as hens thooths. For these volumes it is sure there are failures reported and yes: Ford / PSA have been accept that there are some desing flaws on AJD-V6 engine; the exhaust system layout (spesially on some Range models), material errors in crancshaft and assemply mistages on main bearings(early 2.7l). Same kind of fails do exists exsample in MB, VW/Audi, Toyota... (Compare petrol V8/V6 have serious flaws on cooling system - Finally there are alternatives for plastic piping and waterpump are propably now Ok after x versions, maybe? Block warp in seconds if overheated)
Talking about pre-2015 4cyl 2.2l diesel (PSA DW12 basad) That was exelent workhorse. Used in large volumes in several marguees and i have personally rolled two vehicles beyond 500tkm milestone with that engine. Still: No engine will last without proper service. No diesel or petrol. Long life services are advertised by vehicle manufacturers, because it is their benefit if the car are totalled after 160-200tkm and changed new. ( You can find more info of engines if you are interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Duratorq_engine
JLR Ingenium (2016-> ) diesel engines are different story though.
Cheers

Vasara. had 6 jaguars to date , first was a xk 4.2l petrol had for 3 year never a problem , then a x351 2010 diesel again 3 year . Now and then got an amber DPF full warning normally every month had to take it a good 25 mile blast to clear , then traded that in for a 64 plate portfolio with 17,000 miles again a diesel , again for 3 years but never had a amber warning and it is only short journey's i do , Hence recommending whynns DPF cleaner to lower the burn off temp , had that for 2 plus years sold it bought an xkr cause i was fed up with diesel cars way to slowwwwwwwwwwwwwww, then an ftype then an aston , still have that now also . a very rare v6 petrol autobiography SVO car , smell the coffee and bog off and annoy some one else i know jaguars like the wrinkles in my hands

George05,
In the last 32 years I have owned 11 Jaguars:
3x XJ-S (5.3 MANUAL, 3.6 Coupe and a 4.0 Conv)
2x XF (2.7D and 3.0D)
2x XK8 (4.0N/A and 4.2 S/C)
2x x351 ('12 N/A and '18 575)...Still own.
1x F-Pace 3.5t...Still own
1x E-Type V-12...Still own
I owned the diesel Jags when I lived in England, one, the 2.7, was totalled by a drunked **** USAF 05, the other I gave to my father. He ran it for 6 trouble free years before he died. I didn't find them slow, the torque curve made them quick off the line...then they ran out of puff.
I have plenty of wrinkles on my hands, but I do not claim that all those wrinkles belong to Jaguar. If you really want wrinkles buy a BMW!
Previous non Jaguar:
BMW M3...'nuff said. Never worked, heap of S..t
Suburu Outback
Ford Fiesta
Ford Focus
Vauxhall Carton (Lotus)
Mini
Masarati Bi-Turbo...See BMW M3
Land Rover Freelander
Mini Metro

Sorry, George05,
I forgot to make my point!
Even though I've owned numerous Jaguars, I do not pretend that I know everything. I have a skimming knowledge on my old cars, but a more indepth understanding on those that still reside in my stable.
You may well tell me to "bog off and annoy someone else" ....Then again I could tell you that if you only have the punny V6, and not the 575 V8, so you won't be invited to the party.

Absolutely. My point was the forums in the Uk at least , the diesel version of the x351 are full off problems , for instance their are currently 9 or 10 diesel autobiography cars for sale on websites, if I had wanted one I would have bought one long time ago , Same with the 575 model , but wombat has failed to understand that model has no luxury compared to the very rare petrol autobiography model , only 25 were produced and 18 were the v8 . Only 7 were in v6 petrol guise as my signature says , one of 7 . End of thread for me over and OUT

George05: Apogolies if i annoy you. Did not meant so. It was interesting to share different experiences of the tech. Nice pictures. Quite a catfarm you have had. I donīt have much experience of Jags, i am in my first, but i know engines and tech around them. Mainly because been wrecking many to the pieces and digged out the reason for catastrofe afterwards.
You are right, Diesel x3521 are slow. V8 are just tiny bit faster, barely noticeable, compared even the slowest racecar class i use to compete. Pretty much any car you can register to the road are just dull and boring after a day in a racetrack. Thats why i donīt see myself the point to have any more power on road car, because it dosenīt give any kick anyway, but ofcource this is where everyone get used to.
(and i higly recommend to obey rules and speedlimits on the road. Use closed racetrack to test your limits, it is more fun too)
Again apogolies.
Cheers

Hi wombat , that's strange and it just shows you the difference between the USA market and the UK market , over here the 575 only comes in SWB and dont have the rear seat package , any way enjoy your car . PS what colour did you choose and any photos the x351 is a nice looking car
