I'm in NC and a relative has a 2011 XJL w/ 75,000 miles and tonight everything went caput.
The car was running ok and then we stopped to eat and when finished eating and went to the car the gear selector knob would not pop up as well as the thing would not turn over.
Called AAA and after testing battery it showed no problem w/ battery. Before having car towed home the tow truck operator did get transmission to go into neutral by manually releasing strap in arm rest.
Had the car towed home but still can't get gear selector knob to pop up and certainly it won't start.
ANY IDEAS PLEASE HELP.
Thanks.

It would be worth disconnecting the battery earth for half an hour and then reconnecting again and see if that changes it. It may be that the module, or one of the others, may be stuck in an error state and that should ensure a clean reboot.
Do not close the trunk when the battery is disconnected, else you'll need jump leads or a charger to open it via the studs in the engine fuse box. I drape a cloth or jacket over the latch to stop it shutting accidentally.
If it does fix it you'll need to reset the windows afterwards.
