Glove box not opening

Glove box not opening
Hi, so finally got my car back from engine rebuilt and have a problem - i can not get to glove box. (sorry if that is already disscused in the forum, but could nor find it)
Is there a way to open it wihtout touch sensor. Or any way to check what is wrong with that sensor.
Have been waving, touching, pushing, screaming on it with engine on and off, but it does nothing. Holded for 5 seconds as have read somewhere, that it would calibrate sensor and open the box.
Valet mode is disabled (trunk opens and navigation works).
Found few metal parts in the passenger door holder, so thought, maybe that were some parts, that were not fotted back, but the repair shop did not do any works with that side.
Besides, they were working on ECU. So if any connectors are in or behind glove box, they had to open it somehow.
Any ideas?

Let's try some easy things that you can do yourself, before spending $$$ at the dealer:
1. You may be able to recalibrate that lock button. Keep your finger on the lock button (it's really a touch sensor) for at least 5 seconds. If it opens, you got lucky and that should cure the problem.
2. If that didn't work, try doing a "Hard Reset". Your XJ is a computer with a glitch that you can fix by rebooting it. A "Hard Reset" reboots the volatile memory in various modules that might affect that glove box switch, and reset them to their factory defaults.
See Post #3:

Let us know what happened, and Good Luck!

Thanks, will try aand give you feedback, how it goes. The finger holding did not do anything, thought, maybe somewhere sensor is dissconnected, so it has no power.
And the hard reset post says, that it does not change any programming, so will try this. Because found out, that before me, this car got DPF removed. So last week had reprogramming for car to stop dpf cleanning process , that does not exist.

I'm not a mechanic or an engineer, and mine works just like yours - it's an almost touch sensor. I recall reading somewhere that holding that sensor in for several seconds might recalibrate it. It was worth a try, and If it worked, it makes no difference if it's a touch or proximity sensor.

I looked at my car and I think you can remove the trim panel under the glove box. Then there are 3 bolts looking at you. The box should come out after you remove the 3 bolts?
Circled in red in the picture below.
The switch is bad I think. Since these don't fail often a used on would be fine and they are on EBay for about $20-$30 so not expensive.
I did see a number of codes for the sensor and latch so if you have SDD you could narrow it down more before you started taking things apart?
They are "B" codes so I don't think any normal scanner will pick these up? There is a motor involved which also could have failed but again not reported so rare if that is the problem.

Thanks for the picture and for your suggestions. It seams that i will have to do it the hard way. Found some info, that button is reachable from top - but thats on XK models (because the trim is above). Clubaith1 suggestion removing the bottom trim is most realistic.
Tried turning on and off Vatel mode - did not work
Checked if boot button works, as it uses the same fuse - boot opens, but glove box still don't
Tried disconecting the battery for 30 minutes - no go.
Going to read service manual to see how tho take panel appart. Also then will need to check where is the real problem.
I may be wrong, but the reason could be:
Proximity senson
Button switch relay
Catch solenoid

Yea I know the feeling!
Some good and some bad features too.
I still can't understand why on JUST the XJ you must turn on the front parking sensors? I scraped the front bumper cover several times because of this. I mean my old 2005 S Type R had them on all the time? As does any other car I have ever driven?
