Default GPS Failed

Dropped the car off for GPS. 2nd visit for this trouble.
It was like one of those movies where the GPS takes people in circles.
That's what it was doing. In Washington DC on a Friday @ 3pm Memorial
Day Weekend . Need I say more.!?

Anyway the loner last time was XE Sport. 'Great little car"
They say its better then BMW .... I don't know but its fun to drive.
Even with small engine it has very nice pick up. could kinda kept up with v8's
This time its the XF 3.5. Has a heads up display
on window. ~Nice~
Nice off the line but on Highway not much power.
All solid cars. But they have a real hit with the XE
Put a V8 in it and look out.

PA Bill, sorry to hear about your troubles. We probably passed each other as I was walking all over the National Mall area on Sunday for Rolling Thunder.

As for a V8 in the XE, it is possible. It uses the same basic front structure as you find in the F-Type. So, it is a matter of whether Jaguar wants to put one in or not. PRobably won't get the NA V8 as the Supercharged V6 is effectively the same power. But, put the supercharged V8 in that car and I think you would have a M series killer there.

Call from dealership-- GPS to be cleaned and re-programed. Will pick it up today.
Surprising & disappointing- They build a beautiful car, with some great extras
and top it off with a slow, difficult to use , computer system.
On Pro/Con list, I have always find, under Con - system to slow and not user friendly.

With the XE they can knock BMW out of 1st place in that group market. ( Reviews are all positive) That loaner gave me a good understanding of what the BMW M3 is all about.
I/we have been driving it in my/our Jags all his time and I did not know it.

Rolling Thunder - Yes, was in DC also, that's when the system when out.
3pm on a Friday, Memorial Day Weekend. Driving to and from Georgetown to Arlington
and back again. I had to drop off documentation to one a groups riding. I do know DC fairly well, so we got to where we needed but missed some appointment,
Generally we can be found @ VVA Tent ( Vietnam Veterans of America.) Constitution & 21 St.

PS -- two thing I did not like - Buttons on Steering wheel .
You had to look down and move your hands. On my XJ fingers reached it easy.
The dynamic buttons - they have these in a line by the shifter.
Again you have to look down to find them. On my XJ ( they are set up as in a square) I installed a clear button that 'razes' up. You can feel it with out looking down.
A positive - head up display on front window. Give speed and gear ~Very , Very Nice~

BIll, I will have to remember that. I am down there every year. I normally end up parking my car at the Naylor Metro station and riding the Metro in to Arlington. Then I will spend hours walking around and the station I leave from is anyones guess.

Picked up the car yesterday.
GPS / All working well with a very nice surprise .
We all know how slow the system is.
It is faster now. If it was 2 seconds to change screens,
it now changes in 1 second. I was stocked.
In the reports they gave me -- there is a Jag memo on this.
Something Bulletin & ssms .
No cost but I do have extended warranty.

Parking in DC is always a problem......there was parking along the river
to the left of Lincoln Memorial if you get there at a good time.

I had a good chance to play with the GPS.
The whole system.
I wish it had failed years ago. Its wonderful now.
Like a real system. Push the button and the screen changes --- quickly.
The problem that everyone had, the one that you could always find
under CONS has disappeared. Everything is now n the PRO column.

It sounds like they replaced the TS itself from your description of the improvements, rather than simply a firmware upgrade. The screen does some of the processing for the satnav video so it may have been part or all of the problem you had. Any 2010-2011 (and possibly early 2012) MY cars will have improved touch screens fitted if warranty work is carried out as the earlier parts are no longer available. Those earlier screens were downright dangerous - slow, inconsistent and very frustrating. You will enjoy the car a lot more now that frustration has gone.

I am a big fan of the steering wheel controls on the XJ. Just as you found, when compared to the current design used in the XE, F Type ad others they are far more intuative to use. With the XJ you never need to look at the buttons themselves as they are perfectly positioned and grouped by their function. On the XE-style I find myself having to look every single time I use them. The cruise cancel button in particular is so illogically positioned. I frequently turn the speed limiter on in my F Type when trying to cancel the cruise control. I think they are a case of computer-designed-ergonomics vs functional-ergonomics, but as they are used in virtually every JLR vehicle now they will will evenutally end up in the XJ too.

As to hitting the wrong buttons:
I have installed small clear rubber type buttons
on top of the buttons. You can find them any hardware store.
You never have to look again.
On the buttons you use the most - feel not look.
