Hardwire Radar Detector

Reading the question, my understanding is you want to avoid using a plug into the cigarette lighter / accessory socket for your Radar Detector and instead to have a direct and permanent power lead from the harness?
Can this be so unusual or extraordinarily difficult on the X351 that no one has even attempted it or am I totally missing the point of your question?

I had my 2011 XJL for about 2 weeks when I received my speeding ticket. That cost me $250.
I then went to ABT (legendary Chicagoland Electronics retailer) and bought an escort Passport 9500IX.
They hardwired the power and the Radar is suctioned to the window. That makes it easy to remove, if needed.
They make another model that is attached to the license plate holder, but that was about $1500 ( I think). Mine was about $500, installed.
No issues with the installation. No tickets since.

I don't have my XJ anymore but I did hardwire my V1. I tapped power off of the upper console. You'll need a 12v test light to find the proper power wire. Then use wire tap to make the connection. Sorry I don't have pic's, but there is power there.

The radar is tied to the same fuse as the infotainment ctr. That way, when the car wakes up, the radar comes on.
The only thing dangling is about 4" of wire from behind the rear view mirror to hook up the Escort.
I'll try and take some pics later.

Neither this post with 23 views nor your original one in Audio/Visual Electronics section with 19 views have had a single response!

I hardwired mine.
It's not that difficult. Just open up the console, find a good ground somewhere and use your meter to find a wire that has 12V when the key on. I took the extra step of making sure that the car's electrical system shut the circuit down after the 15 minute or so interior power down period.

I have the Escort 9500ci as well. It's mounted to the left of my rear view, with the power cord run behind the roof liner to the 'button' that comes with it by my right knee. I honestly don't remember where specifically it was tied to, but I remember we had to use a wire in the door sills somewhere. As someone else stated, when you open the car, lock/unlock it, it activates the radar detector. I believe it stays on for 2 - 5 minutes (can't remember). It's saved me quite a few times.

I installed myself a Escort Passport 9500ci and in addition 2 Blinder M20 units Laser Jammers.
Legal in most states. Some states now have new legislation which do not allow laser jammers. You can simply turn that feature off.
I had posted pic of my install about a year ago on this forum. If you need more info let me know. I installed myself as I don't trust many of the installers out there. Let me put that in a more fair language. There are a lot of really great installers out there. I just ran into some knuckleheads completely screwing up my installation in a Porsche.
Please not this isn't just a "hardwired" windshield unit. Its the custom installed unit with radar antenna behind front bumper ect.
