Default How to Install Illuminated Door Sill Tread Plates

I just bought the illuminated door sills tread plates for the front of my 2013 XJ. I searched this Forum for installation instructions and read that it is easy to do, but didn't find any detailed instructions on how to remove the old plates and install the new ones. I don't want to mess up the old ones and am looking for guidance as to the best way to pry them up and what kind of tool to use, if any. I understand that they're attached with spring clips and that the wiring is already there.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

I pulled them up with a handkerchief and my hand. The front ones are easy but the rear ones due to a different type of retaining clip takes a little work.
If you have the rear I can give some advice about their removal and instal.

I did mine just after I got the car over 4 years ago, they only took maybe 20 minutes for all four.
Take a search on the UK forum
Adding Illuminated Tread Plates

I paid approximately 40% of list for the front set of used sill plates on eBay. Here are the part numbers and list prices:

A set of used rear sill plates for the long wheelbase XJ are available for $300 on eBay: Jaguar XJ L Illuminated Door Sills X351 Rear Only Left Right LWB | eBay

You have to check eBay regularly to find good used ones at reasonable prices.

If this was helpful, please press on the bottom right.

Default Installation was a snap!

Just received the illuminated front sills and installation was much easier than I expected. Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry up a corner and then lift to release the friction fasteners and remove the original sill. Plug the electrical connectors together, line up the tabs with the slots, and press down to snap in. Both sides took me less than 10 minutes.

These are the prices I paid for mine. Parts could not explain why the the left rear cost more than the right rear. I purchased the Illuminated Trunk Finisher through parts for $504.00, they gave me a 10% discount because of the door sill purchase.
I could have purchased for slightly less on eBay but preferred to know if I have any issues, the parts will be covered by the warranty and I know the dealership will stand behind it. The trunk finisher was a little pricey but IMO it is a nice touch.
I also have the Chrome Growler Lug Nuts. I do not care for the OEM lug nuts with the covers.
I am glad you have your fronts installed. The removal and installation of the rear will be a little tricky.

Not these, since they fit the current model XJ (X350) and yours is the previous model (X358). Try searching the X350/X358 forum to see if illuminated sills were available for your model.

So I was looking on the different jaguar dealer parts sites (Gaudin Las Vegas and Jaguar Virginia Beach) and I saw the parts/prices you listed, but also an alternative set with different model numbers and list prices that are also illuminated:
C2D30454/5 -illuminated front scuff (212.50 each)
C2D30457/9 -illuminated LWB rear scuff (212.50 each)

Any idea of what the difference is other than price?

Some of the part number differences may be related to the font changes made to "JAGUAR" in 2012/3? (not sure which year it changed)

Doesn't explain the big price difference - retail vs. cost maybe?

Are there any certified Jaguar techs on the forum that can answer this question?

no were techs not parts specialists. that would be answered by calling the parts dept and asking as there are vin splits, special notes etc....

So I did call them and they do not think there is a difference other than they are listed only for 2014-2015. I did end up buying them from Gaudin Jaguar Las Vegas. About 187 each. Shipping was $50 to Florida and no tax. Don't look different from the ones Stuart posted as far as I can tell. They look nice and are easy to install. I only went with the 4 doors and will hold off on the trunk. There was a change in the model numbers in one of the rears (C2D48820 in stead of C2D30457) but the part was correct.

The price difference between the part numbers makes no sense . The only thing that would make sense would be if one is Stainless Steel and the other Aluminum or maybe they are manufactured by a different company. Is what you purchased SS?
Did you see an alternative part number for the TRUNK Finisher and if so what was it priced at.
If I had seen your post before I purchased mine I may have been tempted to do the same as you. I too look at Gaudian Jaguar but did not see or missed the alternative part number with the lower pricing.
I paid $1,806.00 including Trunk Finisher. The Trunk Finisher is pricey but I decided to go all the way.

MHT,
I am not sure what material it is made out of, but it is identical in weight and finish to the plates I took off the car. The boxes all have genuine Jaguar parts stickers/numbers. There is a trunk finisher that is illuminated, C2D30460, I believe their price is 192.94 with the shipping about $25. I actually didn't see this one before, or else I may have purchased it at the same time. I may be making another purchase shortly...

Congratulations on a great deal. The Trunk Finisher over the counter is $565.00
I would love to know how Guadian is listing these items at two different prices.

The one difference I see on my 2013 XJ SuperSport is the Jaguar script is a different "font" for lack of a better explanation.
