Default I am now a Jaguar owner!

I bought a 2012 Jaguar XJL Portfolio 5.0 NA. Certified Pre Owned. Gray with a black interior, wood grain steering wheel, burl trim, fold down tables in the back, 33k miles.

I didn't get the 2013 8-speed transmission, but I don't think the 6-speed is all that bad. I also didn't get the upgraded stereo, but since I'm moving up from a 2002 F-250, everything is about 100x better that what I'm used to.

I love it.

Now, I have a few questions, if you happen to know the answers -

1 - any way to tell the exact color it is? Is there a color code somewhere?

2 - are the lights on the rear vanity mirrors supposed to turn off when you close them? Mine don't and you can see them glowing from around the edges.

3 - it only came with one key fob. If I buy a second off of ebay, can I program it myself?

4 - if you have your phone synced with the car, can you scroll through the music using the infotainment center? I see how to stop/play music, but to switch albums, I have to pick up the phone.

Thanks. I'm excited to be part of the club!

I'd much rather have a 6 speed transmission with a 5.0L NA V8 than an 8 speed with some podunk 3.0 SC V6!

Congratulations JamesTX and welcome to the forum. You must be really excited because that was also my feeling when I purchased mine.
As you can see below I have the '12 XJL Portfolio, however, mine does not have the tables.
Unfortunately I'm unable to answer your questions but I'm sure you will get a response from a forum member who can be helpful to you.
If you do have a warranty have the Jaguar dealership check out the vanity lights issue.
Again, welcome to the forum and, HAPPY DRIVING NEW JAGUAR OWNER AND HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Congratulations, BTW! Out of curiosity, how many of the 2012 XJLs have the fold down tables? It seems like most I see do not have the tables.

You're right; most I see do not have the tables. Once in a while thought I'll be checking eBay or Jaguar dealer sites and will come upon a '12 that has tables.

Yep, I love the low end torque - makes driving it so enjoyable.

No idea how many 12's have the tables. I got them for the kids - they would've preferred rear massaging seats, and couldn't understand what "not offered until 2015" meant. This should keep them happy. Kids......

Congrats

First, we would love to see some pictures...

Second, if you don't mind sharing... What was the asking price for this car?

I'll take some pics and post them later.

They were asking $39,900 for the car. Getting it CPO brought it to $41,900. Plus TTL. So, total out the door was a bit over $45k.

Regarding question number 1 about colors, you might find this information helpful:
Jaguar Paint Code Locations | Touch Up Paint | AutomotiveTouchup
It says there should be a build tag on the driver's side door jamb. Please let me know if you find yours there, because I could not, although I do remember seeing something along those lines on the car. I'm still trying to find it.
There is also a list of possible colors for your car's exterior and interior if you use the VIN decoder which is under "Tools" at the very top of the forum page.

Regarding the vanity mirrors in back, mine turn off when closed. No glow leaks out around the edges.

3 - it only came with one key fob. If I buy a second off of ebay, can I program it myself? No, unless you have the proper Jaguar software and equipment necessary to reprogram it to your car. You may also need a new blank emergency key to be laser cut by a locksmith. Prices vary by dealer; $200 +/- , so shop around if you can. I think a used X351 fob will work, unlike the previous generation smartkey as used on my 2009 XKR that becomes a doorstop once orphaned from its parent vehicle.

4 - if you have your phone synced with the car, can you scroll through the music using the infotainment center? I see how to stop/play music, but to switch albums, I have to pick up the phone. On my 2013 XJ, with my Galaxy S3 phone linked via BT, the controller on the left side of the steering wheel can change tracks forward and backward. I haven't tried to change albums since I set my phone to randomly shuffle songs. I suspect that the steering wheel controls won't change albums, only tracks. But I might be mistaken.

The VIN Build Plate is located on the driver's side "B" pillar several inches from the sill. and I have outlined the Paint code. The keys can only be added by a dealer. But you stated this is a dealer CPO and as such must be sold complete. So they are required to provide you a second key/fob. and anything else that is missing.

My car has the same paint and trim codes as yours. Lunar Grey and Jet. Nice.

They have to give me the second fob? Interesting - I'll call the salesman.

Well, the dealership is being an *** about it. They are saying that they had to replace a tire before it was sold, and it was understood that there was only one key at the time if the sale. And, they took an owners manual from another car to give to me. There's no money in the deal for an additional fob.

I pointed out that the tire and key and manual weren't "extras", they are part of the CPO. We'll see what they say.

The dealership will end up caving in or Jaguar will pay for the fob and programming. Jaguar does NOT want to lose a potential return customer because of bad dealership practices.

CPO is Certified Pre Owned and they have over 150 items they have to check and they have to do whatever it takes to return a car to "as built" condition taking into account some wear and tare for mileage. CPO specs tires must be in good condition and have many miles left on them same with brakes wipers etc. etc. Did they give you the CPO warranty and 6 years (total from in service date and 100k miles) Certified Pre-Owned Program Benefits | Jaguar USA
