I ready to plunge on 2016 XJL SuperCharged
Hello group this is Mike from LA and I’m ready to purchase a 2016 or up XJL supercharged I want to get the 5.0 L engine I test drove it was just great how fast it was. is there a big difference between that and the 3.0 supercharged? Anyway I have about 30 K to spend and anybody who knows well-maintained car that is preferably not black exterior let me know! Summer is coming! Thanks

Yes there is a big difference. But the real question is does it matter to you? The V-6 will be more than adequate and if you want AWD they never offered it with the V-8 which is just a crying shame because they did on the F-Type so they have everything designed. I just figured with the heavier car maybe the AWD stuff would not hold up to the power and the weight increase?
However I have a tuned XJR with about 620HP which is a lot of fun and surprisingly has been trouble free at 52K miles. Two repairs-replace the water pump and plastic hoses (Who could have guessed that!!) and one O2 sensor which again surprisingly Jaguar has extended the warranty to 10 years on those. I did not see it but apparently they had a lot of O2 failures past the warranty period.
I think with $30K or so you should be able to get what you want with maybe a bit of mileage. Try to get a CPO car the later the model the better and remember these are hard to sell and sit forever. So drive a hard bargain and be willing to walk away. You WILL find another car!
I always add this part for people like me who can only afford to buy used. Can you DIY anything? A used Jaguar is no less expensive to fix compared to a new Jaguar. The XJ is a top of the line luxury/performance car and it's complexity and price reflect that. It's also not a common car so little knowledge is out there on how to repair them.
So DIY everything and use this forum as your back stop. These are after all just cars with 4 wheels and and engine. Don't get spooked because it's a JAG!

Yes the water pump was replaced under warranty around 30K miles. I got the big "Y" tube and the top plastic tube replaced at the same time under warranty. These are the 2 big ones on the front of the motor.
At that time I did NOT know about the plastic rear water manifold that also has the same failure problems. It would have been a good time to do it as the SC was already off but it was not leaking so that would have been on my dime. Still wish I had known at that time to do it. I have the part and will replace it sometime in the future and lets hope I get to it before it fails and starts leaking!
Since you asked this has just come out and boy do we need it!
The aftermarket has just started producing the failure prone plastic pipes in cast Aluminum!! Yes finally a lifetime repair! Even the price is great at $250.
The only draw back I can see is no one has run them yet but the pictures look nice!

Thanks for the guidance, I was going between x358 or the newer x351. I am formerly a Porsche guy , driving 911 for over 15 yrs, but i did have a 2009 XF. The XF was nice, to ride comfortably in luxury, and have a fast car was great. I can do basic stuff and know a lot about maintenance, I realize I do want all of the features if a newer car, the LEDS, cooled seats picnic tables in the back. all of the accoutrements of Jaguar. I am still wanting to buy the right year and type. The XJL is a must but i want a fast engine and picnic tables! 2016 has the updated grille and lights what is the perfect XJL? also what is difference in r-sport? Thanks
