Just traded an 06 X350 for 72k mile X351 at around your $35k, so hoping miles won't matter, no big service costs until 100k and a Jaguar warranty.

The X350 ride was better after I had front suspension replaced. The X351 had rear arms replaced, new tyres and alignment as part of preparation but you describe the vibration well in this thread, smooth but just continually uneven. Is it tolerable for 25k miles? Time will tell, would I choose another, don't think I would because this along with poor touchscreen and voice control are a big part of the driver experience. That said everything else (apart from rear visibility) are the equal or superior of the X350.

You need an hour driving to really tune into the ride, then it probably depends on your previous experience as to whether you find it acceptable. Easy to be seduced by the positive features, so keep a clear head when buying.

This is it EXACTLY, as you said:

"You need an hour driving to really tune into the ride"

I am glad someone else noticed the same exact problem. Indeed, if I drive the car short distances the vibration does not bother me much. After an hour, and beyond that, it is extremely bothersome.

Given my experience right now with running much lowered tire pressures (22 cold psi) and how they effectively take the edge off the vibration I might be willing to try exchanging the wheels to 18" and trying a set of tires, like the Hankook Ventus Noble S1 at a 245x50x18 size. This tire seems to have a reputation for superb ride, still high speed rated and would have 0.5" taller sidewalls for more flex thus, better shock absorption. By demonstrating the improvement from low tire pressures that indicates to me that much of the problem could be that the springs on the car are simply too stiff. Perhaps the best solution would be to replace them, if softer ones were available.

With you X350 how was the ride improved? What components of the front suspension were replaced and in what manner? Softer springs? Lower rate shocks? Bushings? Sway Bars?

Thanks for the info,

Albert

The 350 had air suspension in the front as well as the rear Albert. Apparently they changed for springs on the 351 due to early wear (mine was replaced at 30k miles and they claimed wear & tear so nor warrantied). When it was working though it was a great combo of ride and handled well enough for my driving style.

I wasn't aware that the shocks needed replacing unless they were leaking. Is this not the case?

Well the movie was in production in 2011. It had to be a V8 and a portfolio model as i remember the Suede headliner.....i am going by the standards of a US production car.

By the flip side of the same coin, it could have been one of the many different models. Could have been a diesel. As with most films, the audio is done post production. They might have dubbed the sound a V8.

I started reading exploring the information the website above and you may remember the island Bond was taken to? It is an actual island in Japan with a lot of history..... Mitsubishi was responsible for it. They used to be in mining industry way before making cars.
Should be relevant....well kinda..... as it's about Skyfall
"

Hashima Island, commonly called Gunkanjima (meaning Battleship Island), is one among 505 uninhabited islands in the Nagasaki Prefecture about 15 kilometers (9 miles) from Nagasaki itself.

The deserted island of Bond's adversary Silva in the movie SkyFall (2012), might seem the result of the writers' fantasy, but does actually exist. The island is called Hashima, and is located of the coast of Japan.
In 1959, the island was one of the most densely populated areas on earth. On the tiny island (400 x 160 meter), more than 5000 people lived and worked.
The artificial island was developed during the first half of the 20th century for the exploitation of underground coal mines. Mitsubishi, the owner of the mine, thought it would be more efficient if the employees lives closer to the mines. This is how the island was built as a city, including hospitals, schools, shops, cinemas and even a cemetery.
The island was active until 1974, when the coal mines became obsolete due to gas. When the mines were closed, the people left instantly, leaving behind their homes and even some of their belongings.

The shot of the Pruva Regina yacht arriving at the island is CGI, as all the shots of that yacht were filmed in Turkey. Many of the scenes on the island in SkyFall were shot on a set made in Pinewood Studios, UK, but the location is nevertheless one of the more memorable sites of the Bond series.

Jaguar XJ L Supercharged Sedan 4 Door | eBay

This seems like a good deal. I wonder what the catch is. Is it wrecked?

Hmmm... seems like I'm finding more and more X351s under $45k!

http://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchr...=GN_REFINEMENT

I'm not sure which car I find more tempting... the X351 or the XF. The thing I like more about the XF is that the paddle shifting transmission works just like it does on the XK--it blips downshifts. When I drove the XJ, it did not do this.

However, the XF does not have enough standard equipment. You can't get rear heated seats on it. No rear climate control (ok, maybe I can forgive that one).

Also, I'm confused. I wasn't aware that there was a 2010 XJ, but there are a heck of a lot of them on Cars.com. Was there really a 2010 model in the US?

Nope, there weren't...a lot of folk mistakenly call teh 2011 XJs as 2010, because they were available in 2010.

Well it's been 8 months since I posted that I wanted an X351. It seems to me that there will be many low-mileage choices in the $35k range next year. I really enjoy my XKR, but I rarely drive it (no more than once a week) and it usually stays under a car cover. My wife has a Hyundai Sonata (2012 model) that doesn't get commuted with and both cars are usually sitting.

We just bought a house in the DC area and expect house guests from time to time. So I would like a car that would be hospitable and luxurious and I figure an X351 would fit the bill.

I think I will plan on selling or trading in both cars ('07 XKR and '12 Sonata) in on an X351 sometime next year. I figure if I can get about $25k for my XKR and $10k for the Sonata, we may come out almost even!

I don't think the X351 will satisfy my "sports car" itch that inevitably needs to be scratched, but I think I can satisfy that at a later time with something inexpensive like a Miata!

Any idea whether or not the XJ does the throttle blipping when in manual mode like the XK and XF? I read that the XJR does it but only in dynamic and sport mode. Is this the same with the other X351s?

Hmmmm... my local Jag dealer has quite a few X351s under $45k. What I know I want an XJL (my elderly father has trouble getting in and out of my wife's Sonata), but I'm not 100% sure whether or not the supercharger is what I want. Do the supercharged models come with a stiffer suspension? How widespread is this 5.0L water pump issue?
