I would love to upgrade my XJ with a homelink mirror ; I loathe having 3 garage door openers in the car, and this would be super.

My XJ didnt come with it, I asked Jaguar and of course , Jaguar said "you didnt spec it, we dont care, we can sell you a brand new car with it if you want" reply.

So, back on the topic :

I'm looking at this :

Is the homelink module self contained in the mirror ? Ie, is there any aditional parts to buy ? If I just replace my mirror with this one, will it work ? or I need to buy another module ?

I can find no reference to the homelink/garage door opener in the electrical schematics, and as I believe the electronics for it are contained entirely within the mirror assembly itself I think it should be a straightforward swap that the rest of the car does not need to know about.

Disclaimer - I can't prove this! The mirror has conections to the car's high speed network so there may be more to it than that. I suspect it will be a simple swap though.

Be aware that there may be different versions of the mirror for different regions/frequencies.

 

Just my $0.02: I've noticed that my Jaguar's Homelink only works when my car's ignition is on, unlike other cars I've owned - both my BMW and my Infiniti worked with the ignition turned off. This may mean it needs to be connected to a switched power source, I'm not sure though.
