I don't think it's a question of turning something off. The default mode is for the recirc to be turned off.
So I may misinterpret what you're asking, but I think what you're wanting to research is how to permanently turn the recirculation on.

I have no answer, but please let us know if you find a way to do it.
From our experience, when we turn the recirc on, it is only for a limited period, and reverts back to the fresh air operation after x minutes (I'm sure it's documented in the owners manual or Topix system description, but I'm not motivated to look for the specifics).

A short press of the recirc button displays "Timed recirculation on". Press and hold the recirc button and the display shows "Latched recirculation on".

When you shut off the engine, it will revert to the default "Timed recirculation" the next time you start the engine.

Thanks for replying. On our honda crv and 2001 XJ8 Jag if we turn recirculation on (green light) it stays on forever unless we turn it off. Should be our choice. Too much junk and pollen in the air to have it coming into cabin for us.

Thank god cars are not hermetically sealed, so you propably will not die for lack of oxygen when you set re-circulation permanently. However: You will get more pollution, since air will flow in to the cabin thru caps when driving, instead of thru pollen air filter located in the dash..

thanks for the lesson....didn't answer my question. That filter does not block fume smells from other vehicles and diesel trucks.

Sorry. Don´t know the answer, exept that holding the button longer will keep the setting until next start-up. Btw: The active carbon models works quite well for the smells. Avoid cheap non-brand ones, they are just colored...

Interesting that I remember many years ago that some car handbooks stated that re-circulation should not be used for prolonged periods, hence the timer feature, due to stale air being circulated which could possible not be so good for you, of course all those years ago I don't think we had ever heard of a pollen filter !
